During the first 25 years of last century, the scope of interior design or decoration was majorly the issue of craftmen, homemakers and upholsterers who worked for architects to give advice on some artistic aspects. It was mostly Victorian styles and its feature were Victorian bric-a-brac , overstuffed furniture, dark colors and rooms varnished with heavy drapery. Previously, architects find it cumbersome to come up with techniques to improve productivity in designthrough profit margin improvement or competitive advantage. In any design site, material, equipment or designlabor is basically the same. The only way to a contractor can stand out is by increasing his or her interior features. There are different benefits that architects can get from increasing the elegance of a house. These include quick completion of project, low project cost, more profit and submission of competitive bids. Interior Decorator vs. Interior Designer Many people take interior design and interior decoration to mean the same thing, but the two terms are never the same though they have some relationship. In fact it has been difficult for most researchers to differentiate the two terms. These two professions have myriad similarities and a few differences. Interior design refers to a profession that needs specific training and schooling that is formal. It entails study of colors and fabric, training in computer aided design, drawing, furniture design, space planning, and architecture. Someone who has completed studies in interior design can apprentice with established and registered interior designers so that they can develop. In some places, someone who is a professional in interior design is required to sit for an exam, and get registered with a governing council upon passing the exam. Though one can practice before registration. An interior designer does spatial planning and can assist in design and renovation of interiors, starting from drawing the first plan of the floor until the last decoration accent is placed. Their work is to enhance both the look and the functions in a room. Interior designers always work with contractors and architects to assist in achieving the client’s look desires in hotels, offices, residential homes and other buildings. On the other hand, interior decoration entails informal schooling or training since the focus of the decorators is aesthetics. They don’t generally participate in structural planning or renovations. Their work starts after structural planning where they majorly focus on the room’s surface look. Their work is helping the client to whip into shape. They can also advice n the choice of color scheme, style accessories or furniture. Gaudi Interior Design Gaudi’s interior design focused more on improving the design productivity. Gaudi argued that to improve a design productivity, a strategic objectives need to be established, it was hard to attain due to design process complexity. One major way or technique that can be used by a designer to improve its interior elegance was Analyzing the entire interior design process in detail According to Gaudi, design company should conduct an analysis of all the project phases to find what possible barriers can affect the project. It should start from weighing basic factors and setting goals and benchmarks to improve the productivity. For instance, the design company can take a critical observation of the ration of productive and unproductive time in a design site. With critical comparison of different projects, the contractor can determine the reason behind difference in productivity in different projects. For example, the drop in productivity could be caused by use of particular equipment. The contractor can come up with strategies or goals to ensure that the equipment can be made more efficiency, and improve the users training so that they can achieve the set objective. In some situation, equipment may fail to work effectively due to lack of adequate skills by the operators. Gropius Interior Design: Gropius key design factor was improved planning. Gropius argued that though there is no magic solution that can be used to eliminate all work changes, you can carry out a better and comprehensive planning to deal with the effects of work changes and eliminate unwanted features that lead to unappealing interior deco. For instance, if the materials are not ordered in time the design crew will need to wait for the materials to arrive. In addition, the designer need to develop criteria to be used in determining the current planning process accuracy and come up with a more realistic benchmark what can bring about improvement. Gropius also claimed that the designer should carry out a comprehensive definition of long term plan, objectives and scope, rather than just dwelling on design and design quickly. Long term planning eliminates re-work situations and reduces scopes that are conflicting. The implementation team requires coming up with detailed project plan before commencing the interior design process. Research has shown that the project will be smooth if it is implemented according to well planed schedule. Work force planning that detail interior design plan should also be implemented by providing realistic and properly detailed timelines to be followed by the on-site coordinators. The plan should give a definition of tools, activities and supplies which are accurate. Sequencing is also important as it allows the workers to carry out repetitive tasks and hence improve their prowess. While the project is being implemented, the contractor should set aside an additional team whose work will be further planning. The interior design company should spend more time on front-end interior design to eliminate rework during comprehensive interior design therefore eliminating delays during deco. A comprehensive deliverables of interior deco entails clearly defining the work packages beforedeco starts. In addition, the designer should understand shortcoming of employers towards formulating conditions for successful execution of a design project to enhance the designer’s discipline quality which assist improving the productivity in interior deco. Training the crew and the supervisors is very critical in improving productivity, especially those crew members whose skills and knowledge can make project to succeed or fail in sound design techniques and principles. Interior designers do not often train their employee in some skills like how to operate complex equipment. The benefits of training the deco crew are realized within a very short time. Once the employees have mastered the skills, their productivity can be seen and felt immediately. Training also involves how to improve productivity. The designer should also explain to the employees the in-depth meaning of productivity and demonstrate to them how hassles are reduced and profits increased when productivity is increase. When you identify new ways of increasing productivity, ensure that all the members involved in that section have fully understood the new way and the reason behind the implementation of the new technique or technology. The key factor in productivity training should always emphasize that the most productive companies or workplace are produces the highest quality of work and it is the safest place to work, since reworks and accidents are not common. The interior design companies should encourage lower level supervisors who interact directly with the people on equipment and tools. For frontline supervisors, they should be provided with organizational mentoring and training. Corbusier Interior Design Corbusier Design focused more on Application of new technology whenever there is one. These technologies have developed into the current technologies such as interior design information modeling and scheduling software and other equipment that uses state of the art technology can increase productivity by bringing immediate return on investment. Research proved that interior design industry have not invested much in technological development in design. Corbusier insisted that when implementing latest technologies, the designer should benchmark from other industries and learn from the mistake that those companies have experienced in regards to deployment of technology. Mostly, companies who have implemented technology become disappointed when they do not realize its benefits immediately. This leads to cataclysm of changes that discourages and disorients the employees. It is suggested that designers should use gradualistic approach, where the new equipment or software that brings about immediate benefit is implemented first. During the training on the new technology or equipment, the trainer should focus on both details of how to use technology and how the workers and the company will benefit from it. Striking features from the three designers In regards to the three designers based on performance, the designer should ensure that the all the involved personnel such as the trades also get it. They should develop a recognition program for task; where they introduce quality, milestones, and quantity awards for any team who lost no time. In some circumstances, the designer needs to negotiate with the workers and give ideas to accomplished task on quality and time with no rework. As a society base theory, development program is requesting for a correct answer, albeit giving a basically simple explanation. When we decisively part company in technological aspect, it remains a technological theory, in assumption that the changes of technology are independent factors which impact on society from outside. The design should make the crew accountable for cost, scope or time. This can indirectly be a competition. The design company should take employees health as a critical factor. This implies the ease of meeting the employee’s needs, consistent with the requirements of the project. The design company should formulate good work schedules that uphold the home needs of the employees. When there is balance between home life and safe site, the workers can accomplish more work. Avoid expensive overtime should be avoided since it compromises the quality of work which may negatively affect productivity. If overtime is inevitable, there should be breaks in between since a worker then to compromise the quality of work when he is tired. The overtime should be managed effectively by focusing on critical path task. Overlapping of trade should be avoided as it leads to delays. The deliverable and milestones are achieved in a timely manner to avoid working in misleading milestone that can cause delay to the project. When working on a project, ensure that the project conditions are attractive so that the company attract quality skilled workers or employees. It is important for architects to know that DIM more than just a building technology. It is a process, a critical aspect that needs to be understood. DIM deploy different aspects of design, ranging from estimating, and design delivery of materials, supply chain, the building process to resource allocation and high productivity requirement during design. BIM enable the architects to choose the suitable technology since it support different technological platforms. Different technology is supported by DIM which provides the design engineers with many technology options to choose from. These technologies include GraphisoftSynchro professional and Autodesk Revit (Drewin, 2005). Even if human being designs technology as needing some specific pattern of social links to move with, there are technologies which are attached with social circumstances, which are more compatible with particular social attachment than others. When adopting a technology, we may prefer politically, economically or culturally available technology. This is because complex technological progress is a nutshell theory of technological improvement, which discovers in prior what that development is complex, and foresight are, in consequence off the track. But abandoning a task does not justify its complexity. CONCLUSION Evolution of interior design was seen as ostentatious, that highlights dark design elements, such as the decades shoulder pads, big windows, glass and chrome elements. The Foundation for Interior Design Educational Research (FIDER) which is now called the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA) and the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) were started to maintain standards for the examination and education of interior design professionals. This article gives a detailed development or evolution of interior design profession. The notion that technology merely changes, in respect to its own scientific accord, embrace passive technological change attitude. It directs our minds to adapt to technological improvement, not on how shape it. It demystifies the crucial aspect of how we dwell on from the center of choice.
