HVAC is a term used to refer to the equipment and systems of distribution and control that provide cooling, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning for buildings. HVAC is the technology of indoor and vehicular environmental comfort that provides thermal comfort and indoor air quality for the occupants. HVAC, in this case, is used to refer to the ventilation systems used in commercial buildings (Chua et al. 2014). Control and efficiency of HVAC systems are usually the most cost-effective option for improving the energy efficiency of a building.

However, the effect of changing the control system is usually accompanied by various factors that are difficult to predict. The implementation process of an efficient energy management system and control is coupled with the knowledge of understanding the performance of the mechanical and the control system. This paper will look at some of the methods that are used to balance an energy-efficient control system of HVAC in commercial buildings. 1.1.1 Definition For proper comprehension of this discussion, it will be relevant to define some of the HVAC terminologies as follows: (Crawley et al. 2008). Air Conditioner: It is a system that is designed to dehumidify and extract heat from an area.

Air Handler: It is a system that consists of blowers, heating, and cooling elements. It also comprises chambers of filter racks, humidifiers, dampers, and other elements that are in direct contact with the airflow. Chiller: It is a device that removes heat from a liquid through a vapor compression or an absorption refrigeration cycle. The cooled liquid flows through pipes into a building and passes through coils and other cooling systems that were usually dehumidifying the building atmosphere.

Coil: A coil is a device that performs heat transfer to air when planted into a ductwork or air handling system. Constant Air Volume: This is a system designed to provide constant airflow. Usually, it is applied to systems that have a variable supply of air temperature but maintaining constant airflow rates.
