Domestic violence includes the patterns of behavior used by one partner with the objective of exerting or maintaining control over the other partner in an intimate or dependent relationship (Fairbairn & Dawson, 2013). Existing studies indicate that there has been an increase in the frequency and intensity of domestic violence especially in lesbian, gender, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community (Glass, 2014). Society has historically been entrenched with aspects of racism, homophobia, sexism, and transphobia, which have been instrumental in preventing members of the LGBT victims of domestic violence from seeking assistance from existing structures such as the police, the court system, and other organizations for fear of bias or discrimination (Keam & Cook, 2016). The development of the media and the availability of laws protecting the rights of the LGBT community can be perceived as a major contributor to increasing in platforms available for the victims of domestic violence to provide an alternative platform for the representation of their issues (Taylor, 2009).
