Therefore, an understanding of various aspects related to building construction is essential.This paper explores the aspect of site analysis or determining a site’s condition and constraints, the process and concepts of structural design, and the design of structures exposed to fire.

It explains various site surveys, explores the concepts and issues of contaminated land and remediation, geotechnical design and soil mechanics, and building on inner-city sites. The paper looks at the concepts related to structural design, including the principles of structural engineering and related calculations such as second-moment area, beams, cantilevers, truss and frames, force diagrams, bending moments, and shear force calculations as well as design methods like permissible stress design, and limit state design.
