The process is being supported with the help of thorough observations in a systematic manner that provides detailed, reliable and valid information related with performance (SINI, 2015). Various videos as well as statistical information are being provided through performance analysis that improves the coaching process and helps athletes. The information thereby helps the coach and athletes to identify the areas where improvement is required or more focus should be given. Performance analysis facilitates an improved feedback between the coach and athlete therefore improves the overall performance (Hughes & Franks, 2008). Performance analysis is becoming more advanced with the use of technologies. The success of performance analysis depends upon various factors that include proper selection of performance indicators, collecting data repeatedly and the procedure of information analyzing. There are various performance analysis techniques being used for analyzing the performance of the athlete, however, the most appropriate technique depends upon the situation and the type of sports event that are to be analyzed. It has been found through studies that coaches and athletes are able to recall only 30 percent of their event performance in a correct manner and the rest 70 percent is possible only with the help of performance analysis (1English Institute of Sport, 2015). There are certain benefits of performance analysis to athletes among which includes improvement of tactical as well as technical knowledge, improvement in confidence and decision-making. Similarly, performance analysis also provides benefit to the coaches as it helps them to analyze the strength as well as weakness of the athletes and helps them develop their coaching practices systematically (Green Star Media Ltd, 2014). However, among the forms of performance analysis the video analysis serves as the most effective and beneficial for analyzing performance of the athletes. Video analysis is helpful in identifying as well as correcting any problems that are related with athletes. It helps in measuring certain things including the body technique of the athlete during performance, velocities and angles and other factors that are related with the athlete’s techniques (TeamSnap.com LLC, 2015). In this paper discussion will be made regarding the importance of video analysis in various areas including boxing, bouldering and yachting environment. Video Analysis in Boxing Video analysis plays a major role in boxing that helps in analyzing the performance of the boxers. It serves beneficial for a boxer to gain competing advantage over the opponent player by understanding the techniques and flaws of the opponent player. It therefore serves as one of the most essential component of an effective training by the boxers. For every sport, it becomes very essential for a team or player to understand the weakness of the opponent team that would lead to the success of the player. Video analysis helps in understanding the weak areas of the opponent boxer as well as the strengths of the player that ultimately helps in winning the game. With the advancement of technology, various tools and applications have been developed that helps in an effective video analysis of the boxing sports. A video capture system of high technology has been serving as most effective for the boxing championship being conducted in Great Britain (Centaur Communications Ltd, 2011). The “iBoxer system” being invented by the researchers of the UK proved most beneficial for the boxing athletes of the countries of the UK and thus helped in conducting the boxing championships in an effective manner. Moreover, it also won the award of the best sports technology award by the UK government. However, a series of high -resolution cameras are used in the iBoxer system that helps in monitoring various movements of the boxers inside the ring. The video captured through the cameras can be directly accessed through a series of touch screen displays located outside the ring that can be accessed by the coach in order to track various movements of the boxer (Zhao, 2012). The boxer can access the video footage between the bouts that would help them in determining the fighting strategy, understand the tactics of the opponent player and thereby improve performance. The iBoxer system has therefore improved the performance analysis quality in the field of boxing and provided several benefits to the boxers with respect to improve their performance (2English Institute of Sport, 2015). However, video analysis also helps the coaches to develop effective fighting and training strategies through analyzing the performance of the player as well as tactics being implemented by the opponent player. It has been found through surveys that the boxers who take the help of video analysis systems deliver better performance and tend to win more rounds as compared to normal. Generally, a boxer wins five out of ten rounds in a boxing championship without using any tools of performance analysis, whereas the boxer using video analysis tools in an average wins eight out of ten rounds in the championship (Zhao, 2012). Players are able to monitor their loopholes through the help of video analysis. Video Analysis in Bouldering Video analysis also serves as an important tool for measuring the performance of the participants who take part in bouldering. Using the analysis tool can help in improving the performance of the participants. Bouldering can be carried out in an internal environment or even be carried out in an external environment and thus the video analysis of the participant performance depends upon the environment in which it is being carried out. The video analysis in bouldering is generally used for tracking the movement of the climbers and thereby helps in gaining competitive advantage over others. Bouldering has become a major part of sport events and thereby has become more competitive, which requires higher quality training to participants to win the event. In addition to high muscle strength, an effective technique of analyzing the performance is inherently necessary in order to attain success. Therefore, video analysis serves as the most beneficial for coaches as well as participants of bouldering that helps them to enhance their performance (White & Olsen, 2010). For climbing or bouldering, it is very essential to track movements and postures of athletes and therefore it becomes necessary for proper positioning of the camera in correct angle. However, the advancement of technologies has made possible to establish an effective recording system along with planning and tilting the cameras for an effective capture of footage from various angles. Through video analysis particular characteristics of the expert climbers can be detected, based on which other athletes can learn the techniques that would help them gain competitive advantages over competitors. Various horizontal and vertical movements of the body postures of the climbers as well as time taken to climb a particular distance are also captured in the video. Video analysis of the footage provides certain information to the climber regarding the mistakes that he/she have made during climbing and what should be the corrective measures (Daiber & et. al., 2013). However, there are certain software and computer programs that support video capture and analysis in an effective manner. Various mobile applications have also been developed such as Coaches eye and Dartfish that has made the analysis process more easy and effective. However, the coach can also understand from the video analysis the necessary improvements and techniques that should be trained to the climber that would help to attain competitive advantage over other climbers (Ladha & et. al., 2013). Video Analysis in Yachting In addition to boxing and bouldering, video analysis also plays a major role in analyzing the performance of athletes taking part in yachting environment. Among all other outdoor sports, yachting has also become one of the most common sports that has gained its significance and therefore has become more competitive. Video analysis in yachting is very important in order to understand the velocity of the yachts that would help in gaining competitive advantage over the opponent team or yachts (Allen & Jong, 2006). The main theme of yachting is based on the velocity of yachts and the techniques being implemented by the participants that would lead to their success. However, in addition to the video analysis other performance analysis tools that would serve beneficial in tracking the performance of the participants of yachting. Among other tools, the GPS tracker serves beneficial in tracking the records and data of yachting that can further be analyzed by the participant and the coach for improvement in performance. GPS not only used for the navigation of yachts but also helps the racer to keep a log of performance during racing (Harper, 2011). Later the racer can analyze the data retrieved from the analysis in order to rectify the areas where there is a necessity of improvement. Moreover, the coach can also formulate effective training strategies that would help in improving the performance of the racer. Moreover, there are various other tools and software developed for supporting the video analysis to be more effective and most of them are easily accessible through personal handhelds. However, for the proper capture of the video it is very essential to use a high-resolution camera and high quality equipments that would help in delivering the best quality footage. This will benefit the racer in analyzing every detail of the movements and other factors that are related with yachting (Allen & Jong, 2006). Part II Pros and Cons of Video Analysis Performance analysis therefore serves as an essential tool that helps the athletes and coaches to improve their performance in various sport events and thereby gain competitive advantage over the opponent player or team. For every sport, it is necessary to know proper techniques that would lead to the success of the player. However, with the help of video analysis a player can identify the areas where improvements are necessary and based on it necessary measures that would help in improving the performance. The performance analysis also helps in identifying the techniques and body movements of the opponent player during the sport, which helps in gaining competitive advantage over the opponent. It can therefore be considered as the secret to success of any player (University of Calgary, 2015). In addition, performance analysis also serves as an essential tool for the coach that helps them formulate effective strategies for training the player. However, there are various types of performance analysis tools, which is most commonly used and the most effective is the video analysis tool that helps in recording every movement of the player as well as the opponent during their event. Properly positioning of the camera in perfect angles is very essential for the effectiveness of video analysis (Demand Media, Inc, 2015). Video analysis helps in using the records regularly to formulate effective strategies for athletes. However, in context to bouldering there are various pros and cons of video analysis that have been revealed through personal experiences. Among the video analysis tools, Ubersense served as to most effective application that helped in analyzing the performance of the climbers in bouldering. Through the application, various postures and body movements of climbers can be tracked and recorded that would help in identifying the areas of improvement. It is therefore the most effective and commonly used tool that helps the players and athletes boost their training to compete against the opponent players or team. The trainers and coaches analyze video footage of live actions that helps them to acquire information, thereby serves beneficial for their athletes. Then major benefits of video analysis is that it helps the players to correct their faults, focus on the strength and thereby gain competitive advantage over the opponent team or player. Video analysis also helps in reducing the risk of injuries in a sport. However, injury is common in all sports but they can be prevented if proper precautions are being taken. Through proper video analysis, the areas of danger can be identified and changed, that would help in reducing the chances of injury to a great extent. Moreover, through video analysis, an athlete can also identify the weakness in certain areas of sports that leads to the failure and based on which they may take necessary precautions and measures that would help to compete against the opponent and thus win the game. Various types of tools used in video analysis, which includes Coaches eye and Ubersense among others are easily accessible through mobile phones (Cross Country Ski Technique, 2015). However, in addition to the benefits of video analysis there are also certain disadvantages of it that would affect the performance analysis of players in bouldering. Video analysis fails to provide various statistical data and information to the climbers that can be provided through statistical analysis. Moreover, time motion analysis serves as most beneficial in bouldering because through the analysis the time taken for movement of various body parts in climbing can be identified, which the video analysis fails to provide (Australian sports Commission, 2015). Conclusion Thus, it can be concluded that video analysis serves as the most essential tool of performance analysis for both players and coach to improve their performance. Analyzing the recorded video through the high-resolution cameras helps the players to identify the areas where there is a necessity of improvement. Moreover, it also helps to track the movements of the opponent player that would help to gain competitive advantage over the opponent team. However, a proper setting with perfect camera angles is necessary to be provided for the effectiveness of the project. Video analysis has served beneficial in various fields of sports including boxing, bouldering and yachting among others. There are various tools and applications of video analysis including Coaches eye and Ubersense that can be accessed easily with the help of personal hand held devices thus provides easy access to the users. In bouldering, video analysis plays a major role in analyzing the performance of climbers even though there are various disadvantages of this performance analysis tool.
