Love types The topic chosen for this assignment is love types and the films chosen to help with the study are Mrs. Doubtfire and Falling in Love. This is because the films show different types of love expressed to different people. In this case, Mrs. Doubtfire has an immense love for “his” children, and this made “him” take up the job of a housekeeper when he learns that his ex-wife is in need of one. In Falling in Love, a forbidden love is demonstrated where the characters who are married fall in love. The film was chosen because it helps to communicate the effects that extramarital affairs have on marriages, such as divorce. The topic indicates that there are different forms of love that exist. This discards the initial assumption that the term love is meant for couples only. Love can be between friends, family members, strangers, couples, children or anyone who you may encounter and needs love. The love for another person other than yourself can make you go an extra mile to achieve something for them to ensure that the bond is not broken or further strengthened. Disagreements occur with the ones we love, and it is important to find effective ways that will safeguard the relationship. People who lack any form of love in their lives are usually depressed and withdrawn from the society. With people to love you, you have peace of mind knowing that you can depend on them for anything. Loved ones create joy in our lives and make us look forward to seeing a new day. It is our loved ones who offer help when none is forthcoming. For instance, you may be jobless and in need of money to run an errand. When you tell this to one of your friends or family members, they would easily assist because they can comprehend the situation we are faced with. A parent’s love for her children can make her sacrifice a lot to ensure that she provides all the needs that the child requires. She can choose to work long hours and have less free time so that the child can go to the best schools and obtain a high-quality education. It is apparent that many parents sacrifice a lot to ensure that their children get the best out of life. The love experienced by people of different genders is great as it provides companionship for individuals. It gives a person the opportunity to interact with someone they hardly know on a very personal level. This kind of love may lead a person to develop the need to protect the other partner and provide what he/she needs to make his/her life comfortable. Knowing how to guard such a relationship and avoid its breakdown is important. In some instances, however, these relationships do not work out, and it would be helpful if the parties involved can find an amicable way to move forward without having any ill feelings towards each other. Some people may hold divergent values, and this may lead to a break-up. Thus helps to prove that it is necessary to understand what the other person values, in order to avoid such a case. Issues in a relationship are inevitable, and couples should develop effective ways that to handle them. There is also a kind of love that can be described as forbidden love. This love is experienced when a person decides to have an extramarital affair with another person, even though he/she may be already married or dating someone else. The love may begin as a casual friendship that later turn romantic. These relationships thrive when a person feels a void in his/her relationship and tends to find someone who fills the gap. For those who engage in this love, they often keep it as a secret as they are afraid of how their partners will react when they know what they are involved in. The majority of the unfaithful people never intend to leave their current partners, but want to experience the best of both worlds. This kind of love can have a significant emotional impact on the partners as they will begin to question what they did wrong (Ambert, Anne-Marie 21). They would not understand why their partners are dissatisfied, and choose to have another relationship. Such betrayal can lead to a breakdown of a relationship as there will be no longer trust or feelings of love. Some relationships, however, overcome the infidelity and can be repaired. This can be done through numerous counseling sessions whether the deceiving partner will be encouraged to talk about the circumstances that made them cheat (Ambert, Anne-Marie, 22). Although, some relationships have the ability to work and be strong after a cheating scandal, some are irreparable. The relationship may survive the infidelity for some time, but the faithful partner will always be in doubt. He will become suspicious of every move the partner makes, and it will be hard for him to believe that the cheating will not happen again. Divorce and separation can impact on the love of both the couple and their children or close friends/relatives. Many couples fear getting a divorce on the subject of the consequences associated with it, such as loss of love (Fagan and Churchill 25). However, a number of factors may lead to filing of a divorce, such as infidelity or violent behavior. It is clear that many couples fail to cope with life after divorce, which entail the subject of financial constraints and relationship struggles. In addition, the issue of custody of the children and separation of assets and family property may be stressful to both partners. There are instances where the custody of the children is given to either the mother or the father on account of the ability to raise them properly (Fagan and Churchill 27). In this regard, in case one or both of the couples does not meet the requirements for taking the custody of the children, such as one with violent behaviour or one who abuses alcohol or drugs, they may be denied a chance of children’s custody. Also, the couples may be given a chance to visit the children or provide the necessary care and support. All these pose significant challenges to both the couples and the children, further destroying their love. In the film Mrs. Doubtfire, parental love is clearly shown. Daniel, who was divorced by the wife, is hired to be his children’s housekeeper, after changing his identity. This was the only way that he realized he would spend more time with his children, the judge granted custody of the children to his ex-wife. He did not let the ruling deter him from spending time with his children. A divorce causes emotional harm to the children (Balestrino, Ciardi and Mammini, 11), and by being their nanny, he hoped to control the impact of their parents’ divorce. With their father acting as the nanny, the children were always happy because he helped them a lot. The father was also in a great position as he could see his children all the time and actively participate in their life activities. Another case of parental love in the movie is when Daniel decides to throw his son a birthday party that he considered would be special for him. This shows that he had great love for his children, and he made their happiness his priority. Because of the effort made, Daniel to be around his children, his ex-wife decides to challenge the court ruling even after she got to know the truth of who the nanny was. She realized that the kids were happy with him around the welfare of the children was important. In the film Falling in Love two strangers named Molly and Frank, who were both happily married to different people, fall in love with each other. Although there is an attraction to each other on their first encounter, they manage to control it. However, constant meetings made them fall in love with each other against their will. This indicates betrayal to their love partners and their actions lead to the disintegration of their marriages. This shows that cheating is considered an unforgivable act in a relationship and one should never consider it as an option. Once a faithful partner is cheated on, he finds it hard to trust his partner and in most cases, divorce tends to be the only option. In conclusion, the paper aimed to explain the types of love and mainly dealt on parental and a couple’s love. Through the study, it was noted that it is possible for a parent, who loves his children, to sacrifice himself to ensure that he spends time with his children and contribute to their well-being. Instead of Daniel looking for another job to help take care of himself, he chose to disguise himself and work as his children’s nanny – Mrs. Doubtfire. He kept it a secret from everyone because he knew that not everyone would be comfortable with it. Seeing his children happy was his joy, and he was determined to participate in their lives. The study also helped show the impact that infidelity in a relationship can pose to married couples. Even though the couple in the film Falling in Love did not intend to be in a relationship, they nevertheless did. This caused emotional pain to their faithful, and loyal partners and their marriages could not survive the betrayal. This indicates that partners should avoid cheating in their relationships. It is not worth losing someone who you have spent a long time with, because of a betrayal that can be avoided. When one gets married, cheating is not an option. When one feels dissatisfied with their relationship, they should talk to their partners and figure out a way that will restore their marriage. Approaching a marriage counselor can also help to solve the problem. Works Cited Ambert, Anne-Marie. Divorce: Facts, Causes &Consequences, 2009. Web. April 17th, 2015.
