If a person is to be healed from mental sickness, he has to be separated in spirit from these spirits. Koranic healers. The article also sheds a light to the characteristics and process of becoming a Koranic healer. It is believed that this mode of treatment originated with the prophet Muhammad. It was passed on down the generations maintaining its original skills and techniques used. The practice is only open to men. This is because women are considered easily influenced by evil spirits. Men whom want to be spiritual healers are required to have a broad knowledge of Islam literature.

He is also has to be under the guidance of an experienced healer for a period of a year. They are required to follow Muslim teachings and to and to lead a holy Muslim life. The curative procedure involves a three-stage process of treatment. The process involves practice of healing procedures that conform to beliefs governed by Muslim faith. Reasons for choosing the reading There are several healing practitioners in the Muslim world, but there will be a focus on Koranic healers. These practitioners use religion and science to heal patients with physiological problems.

The study of these people put to light the use of use of social work research in traditional healing methods. The practice of Koranic healing can be beneficial to researchers of western origin since they can apply the ideology to the significant Muslim population in their societies. The preference of Muslim societies to traditional healers when in need of psychotherapeutic intervention demonstrates the huge role played by Koranic healers. This subject is important because it demonstrates the integration of social work in Muslim societies and it provides cultural sensitivity to Muslim traditions that western practices do not provide.

The methods used by Koranic healers provide a vital social service to their clients. The treatment process first considers the religion of the clients involved; works on problems of mental health form a religious angle. Critique Koranic mental healers provide a vital service to Muslim people who suffer from mental conditions giving particular attention to their cultural beliefs. Koranic healers provide a vital social service to a people who are strongly religious taking consideration to their belief.

Muslims have strong religious values and associate mental illness to demonic powers. The Koranic healers have to understand these religious beliefs and that is why it is required to have knowledge of Islam. According to Al-Krenawi and Graham, the healers they interviewed had educational knowledge on island. An understanding of Islam religion on mental illness is vital to healing patients. Islamic teaching holds that evil spirits more easily influences women than men. This thought comes from the story of Eden where Eve easily succumbs to the serpents temptations.

For healers to have authority over this practice they should believe in god and live the according to the holy Koran. The practitioners also have to believe that this holy book can influence the evil spits. Koranic healer’s posse the knowledge on how the evil spirits enter the body hence know how to facilitate the removal of such spirits (Al-Krenawi and Graham, 1999).
