The paper "Applying to Medical School" is an excellent example of a scholarship essay on health science and medicine.
Reconstructive surgery is all about the reconstruction of an abnormality usually a congenital defect, a traumatic result, or maybe a result of an infection. Approximation of normal appearance may be an addition of its application. In the US alone, more than 5 million surgeries every year involve some form of plastic or reconstructive surgery, most of which present life-changing events for both the patient and the operating surgeon. For example, in children, it involves correction of deformities or reconstruction of physical birth defects.
My goal professionally is to venture into this broad, and challenging field of reconstructive surgery with the aim of enabling children with deformities live fulfilling lives. Having worked in a sick children hospital assessing deformational plagiocephaly and cranial molding helmets in infants to support their normal development, I believe that the career in child reconstructive surgery would be the right path for me. This is in addition to the interest in children that I have developed throughout my life has worked as a children’s swim instructor in various instances. In addition to working as a swim instructor, I developed leadership skills in the numerous volunteering positions that I held; in a lodge in organizing men’s activities, in Lion’s club and in a Health Sciences Center, this I believe will be invaluable in my career growth. Therefore, my goal in the reconstructive surgery career is to seek excellence and personal satisfaction from the results of my work in affecting a child’s life. In the long term, I plan to be actively involved in developing child reconstructive procedures through active participation in research and conferences where I will be able to meet and interact with those in the same profession to keep myself abreast. This will fit with my goal in life of being helpful and changing the lives of children. With that, I look forward to the patients whom I will help and in the process learn from.
