Thailand's municipal solid waste (MSW) generation showed an increasing trend parallel to the development of the economic conditions, urbanization, and the rapid growth of the population. Huge amounts of waste are generated daily and its management is a considerable task that encompasses various strategies, such as recycling and reuse, efficient waste collection and disposal system, financial capability, and effective participation of the government, public and private sectors. The proper management of this waste requires tremendous amounts of effort, money, and determination.

The management of waste through individual activity, while important, is not adequate, which is why intervention from high-level authorities is required if plans for the management of waste are to be effective. Waste management involves the collection, transportation, processing, disposal, and monitoring of all waste materials that are the side-effect of human activities. The goal of waste management is to reduce the chance of dangerous effects of waste on the lives and health of both people and other living things in the environment.

There are different methods for waste management and each of these methods is relevant to the particular waste materials involved. In every country, different methods are used in the management of waste, and the technological development of a particular country will determine which method it uses.Although waste management, or waste disposal, is critical for the management of the waste products arising from human activities, it itself can sometimes cause damage to the environment, even though the aim of the waste management was to reduce the possible bad effects of waste on the health of the living things in that environment.

In this study, the factors affecting successful project implementation of solid waste management of three tourist destinations in Thailand: Koh Samui, Municipal of Phuket, and Pattaya will be explored to determine how they could potentially impact the success of the project. The research will focus on solid waste management from these three tourist destinations in Thailand.
