ISSUE STATEMENT To identify the most common form of domestic violence prevalent among women and girls and to devise strategies and interventions to combat domestic violence. 4. RESEARCH METHODOLOGY This thesis will be based on both the qualitative and quantitative research. 4.1 DATA COLLECTION METHOD: 4.1.1 QUALITATIVE RESEARCH: In the qualitative section of the thesis firstly the scope of the problem is discussed in detail. In the section on magnitude of the problem discusses physical abuse, sexual abuse and rape, psychological and emotional abuse, femicide, sexual abuse of children and adolescents, forced prostitution etc. The thesis then in details explains the causes of domestic violence; its consequences such as denial of rights, impact on health, impact on children, critical issue of child survival. The paper also mentions the obligations of the state towards dealing with this issue. The entire discussion leads us to the results of designing strategies and interventions in order to combat domestic violence against women and girls and reduce their overall impact as well. 4.1.2 QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH: 4.1.2.1 SAMPLE SIZE: The quantitative section is based on questionnaire based on which a survey is conducted from a group of 30 women and girls that have faced domestic violence. The sample is selected from a group of women comprising from third world country India where the rate of domestic violence in women is increasing day by day. 4.1.2.2 DATA ANALYSIS METHOD: The data was analyzed with the help of both qualitative and quantitative research. Six questions from the questionnaire were examined and results demonstrated with the help of graphs. 4.2 TOOL USED TO CONDUCT SURVEY: The quantitative section is based on questionnaire based on 5 questions asked from a group of 30 women and girls that have faced domestic violence and graphs are designed based on the fact that which form of domestic violence is more prevalent in them. What in your views should be the strategies to reduce domestic violence? ___________________________________________________________________________ I have developed this questionnaire with the help of both open ended and close ended questions. Before designing the questionnaire I decided to do a testing survey based on the questions that I had prepared for my rough draft of my questionnaire to see how effective these straight forward questions be when answered and what will be the response of the children and women who will be asked these types of questions and will they truly response to them or not. 4.3 LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY: One of the difficulties that I faced is that there were many women who were not interested in answering the questions which made me realize that they do not want any sort of interference in their life that proved the point that questionnaires should be designed very carefully. It was suggested that these questions be designed very carefully about the ways in which they ask these questions because women may feel threatened by questions about their relationship with the perpetrator and the impact of this relationship on their ability to work. For example, questions which ask if the perpetrator is living with the woman or if the perpetrator is the father of her children could be perceived as threatening questions because the answers to these questions could determine welfare receipt. Another problem is that women do not want to speak their minds out and express their thoughts. In many societies women are denied their rights and when the violence occurs at home, (which in may cases does) the family, law and society usually ignore it and keep the matters in complete silence in order to keep themselves safe from the abuse of their family and other relatives. Domestic violence is committed by the those men who are in the position of trust, closeness and plays a leading role in the life of women and children such as husbands, fathers, father-in-law, stepfathers, brothers, uncles, sons, and boyfriends. In almost every case domestic violence is committed by men against women. Its not that women are not reported to be violent but only a small percentage of this has been reported.
