Extract of sample "GLBT Alliance Talk"

Before the presentation from students from the GLBT Alliance, I did not care too much about those people. But, after hearing some of their stories, I understood the kinds of difficulties that people like that go through. Of the four students, two were lesbians, one was gay, and one was transgender. They spoke of their experiences after their parents found out about their sexual choices. I found it really sad that they had to be treated like this for their lifestyle choices. One of the student’s parents threw out his clothes in the garbage when they discovered that he was transgender. All of these people have gone through tremendous challenges, and we need to respect them for that. I learned that LGBT people are really just the same as any of us and should be treated as such. These people are proud of their sexuality and should not be criticized for it.

My opinions were challenged by this presentation. Before, I did not think too much of these types of people because I thought that they just kept to themselves. However, I was shocked to discover the kinds of things that they go through. Before this presentation, I had always believed that people became gay. However, after hearing some of their heart-breaking stories, I now am of the view that some people are born that way.

The GLBT community is an important part of our society because they are Americans just like the rest of us. It is time that they were treated equally and made to feel part of society.
