Female football players tend to be more coachable than males players.Female football players tend to be more coachable than males players In the work of Babbitt & Frankl, gender is an important aspect in an understanding of the relationship between coaches and the athletes. In as much males and females are born with comparable body reactions, Gosselin clearly argues that their psychological distinctiveness is disparate3. In his work, Gosselin says that girls have a high esteem as compared to the males4.

It is warranted to argue that the girls will put a lot of effort and weight on what they do. As a result, the females will shift focus on benefiting from the coaches’ lessons. This is applicable in the case of soccer, all in an endeavor by the female players to feel good about themselves and what they do in the general public. With the girls placing more significance on what they do, it is probable that the coach will be better positioned to coach them unlike the boys. Just like in the case of the self esteem concept, girls have been indicated to have virtues and values that make them more coachable than the boys.

In the research carried out by Gosselin, girls have more elements of team spirit than the boys5. Since the girls hold more grudges than the boys, they are likely to cultivate rapport among the fellow teammates. On the other hand, the boys are termed as individualistic and do not treasure personal contacts with the other teammates. Boys will then play the blame game, and even externalize their performance, as far as team performance is concerned6. Girls will take responsibility of their actions as team members; thus, training the girls is easier.

Alternatively, Moran says that in terms of sports, girls and boys vary in terms of subjecting them to exercises7. In this case, girls are motivated to work as a team as they believe their contribution is equally important for the team, while the boys will play to compete for status8. It would be arguable to indicate that the a boys’ coach will be dealing with individuals with varying interests, as opposed to the girls who work for collective best interests of the team. Girls are therefore coachable as their motivation factor is building lasting relationships in the team9.

The boys are persons with special interests, thus, makes it an uphill task for the coach to motivate the teams and deal with numerous individual differences in the team. Williams & Kenow say that in the long-run, the girls turn out to be more confident10, as a result, the coach will be more attracted to the girls’ team. Wilson & Taylor argue that women are better addressees and are more agreeable than the males11. In the case of sports, it is vivid that the girls have a tendency to swallow their pride for power and status and take heed to the advice of the coaches.

This places the coaches on an easier stance to educate the female soccer players. The same advice from the coaches is seen on the field, an explanation of the fact that the coach has managed to create a form of culture among the female players12. The males, on the other hand, prove difficult to respond to coaches’ instructions, as their pride comes first in most cases. Conclusively, it is valid to argue that female players are more coachable as opposed to the male players due to their differences in terms of psychological makeup.
