Career strategic plan- Logistics coordinator Name Course Tutor Date Introduction The economic world has undergone a big transition during the recent decades; there is a lot of new development that has generally occurred in every part of the world. This rapid economic development is attributed some factors such as technological advancement, competitive industries, high demand of goods and services due to population growth, creativity and innovation, exploitation of the new resources among other factors. All these factors have in turn resulted to demand for both skilled and non-skilled laborers to work in different sectors of the economy. Generally, around the world, skilled workers are on high demand because most of the population has just basic education but has not specialized in specific field. Non-skilled workers are also important but they are readily available a factor which makes them not to paid a reasonable wages by the employers (Henderson 2009:1). Therefore, skilled workers who tend to take the opportunity of being scarce to bargain the amount they ought to be paid by the employers. This makes them to at least earn good wages at the end. This implies that any person who is thinking of drawing a career plan think of becoming a specialist in a particular field to get an upper hand in the job market. Like other people, I have been thinking of a good career that would be enabling me to work in both local and international organizations. Basing on the above knowledge, I have decided to pursue a career in the logistics management. This field is one of the hot cake careers on the job market both in my country and even in other countries around the world. This is due to many ever-emerging industries and organizations that need people who have the knowledge in this field to aid in the management and coordination of the shipment operations (Wayney.edu 2011:1). Therefore, I believe that when I pursue this career and get the qualifications required, I will not miss a job in the job market. Another reason why I want to pursue this career is that it is flexible; I can work in both public and private enterprises. I’m intending to work as a project coordinator in agility logistic company a shipment company that is based in Kuwait. Once I attain the qualifications required, I would have high chances of securing a job opportunity in this company because it is a well established company since it has over 500 branches spread all over the world. Therefore, it offers a suitable environment that is multicultural which accommodates any person from different parts of the world. In logistics industry, we have various kinds of logistics coordinators; we have events coordinators who serve considering the time and date of the event, the location and the number of visitors (WiseGeek 2012:1). This kind of coordinator arrange for refreshments, furniture, public address systems and entertainment groups. Secondly, we have center coordinators who are the logistics coordinators who work in schools colleges and other learning institutions (WiseGeek 2012:1). They provide information for example, the admission information to students and the parents. They also tend to coordinate with the teachers to conduct the school operations. Lastly, we have the shipping and receiving coordinators who in most cases do manual jobs such as addressing, assembling and stamping the shipment and merchandise documents. This is my preferred career, working as a shipment coordinator. Logistics coordinator can do a variety of tasks; generally, they oversee the events that take place in the projects that take many facets (WiseGeek 2012:1). This means that this work needs many skills; the most important skill is just the ability for them to grasp all the moving parts of the entire project. Therefore, a logistic coordinator is an individual with dynamic capabilities of adaptations to both external and internal forces. He is an all round person who is a professional quick in making decisions and willing to address the daily challenges of life. Some of the key responsibilities are; First, communication with the projects managers regarding the issues that arise in the course of project implementation. Coordinate the project implementation calendar Arrange for the training for the new recruits Update the progress of the project and weekly status report Coordinating and distribution of the evaluation Conduct project’s negotiations and data management Career plan My career- Logistics professional My vision- Is becoming a competent project logistics specialist who would be in a position to serve in both the domestic and international project cargo shipments companies after a period of about 10 years. Ultimate goals -Becoming a project Logistics coordinator - Working in both domestic and internal shipment companies - Using my skills and knowledge to serve the clients with high-level services Career qualifications The required qualifications for this career include, pursuing a course in logistics. One can start with a diploma to familiarize himself with how the operations are carried out and how they are interrelated. A diploma course of two years would be of great importance and would give a good base when intending to take a degree. One can now take a bachelors degree course of about three years to learn detailed things that are associated with logistics issues. This would acquaint the learner with vast knowledge on how logistics is done in various parts of the world. Moreover, a degree course involves practical that are done during attachments, this would give the learner hands on experience after the theoretical work he would have learned in class. For one now to qualify as a logistics project coordinator, it is required to be a holder of master’s degree in logistics. A master’s degree fully prepares the individuals by giving him the required knowledge in every kind of logistics both in domestic and international arenas. In additions, one needs to have a good experience from different companies to be in a position to handle or manage and coordinate the operations of the projects. Pursuing all these qualifications is an uphill task that needs patience and hard work because it takes a long time and many resources in form of finance. First, because I was a diploma holder in logistics, I decided enroll for a bachelors’ degree course in logistics in one of the Universities offering the course. This would take me a period of three years, which would end in mid 2014, and I will be able to graduate in December the same year. This would enable me to gain a general understanding of logistics knowledge specifically the terms used in business world. I would be able to learn how private and public enterprises carry out their distribution, storage, and transportation of the cargo. This degree would be a gate pass for me to seek more experience in various companies to gain more of the practical work as I relate it to the theoretical knowledge. . This would take me about one and half years to master how this works. At the same time, I would link with other professional in logistics who have a vast experience in this field for them to act as my mentors. This would enable me to develop grasp the concepts needed to be more efficient and competent in this field. This degree now would elevate me to a high position where I would be able to secure a good job in the government ministries or private firm. Because I would be a specialist, I would not be tied to work in one firm alone. I would seek part time jobs in other shipment companies and work in contracts. This would enable me to gain a vast experience in logistics and management; in addition, I would be in a position to gather more wealth to start now establishing myself. I would stay in this job for about four years the main objective being gaining experience in different fields. I would work in different kinds of corporation and see the different challenges these corporations undergo and find out how they tend to carry out their business. In the year 2018, I would enroll for masters’ course in Logistics and management any of the Universities. This course would be a part time study; I would go for evening classes after working hours. It would run for about three years to somewhere December 2021. The course would be aimed at acquainting me with advanced knowledge in the business logistics and management. The knowledge I would acquire in this course coupled with the previous courses and the experience I would be getting, will enable me to be a competent fellow in this career. The time I would be pursuing my masters, I would be visiting some various companies in this industry and see how they operate and managed. Sometimes, people end up changing their career plans severally in their lifetime; this is due to factors such as scarcity of financial resources, changes in the work environment, new interests etc (Hansen1996:1). For anyone to successful achieve his career plan, he/she must be committed, focused, patient, disciplined and industrious (Gallegos Frederick 2003:1). One of the secrets of having many job opportunities is going for professional careers where one would not be tied just to one employer. Having a professional skills, enables one to working in different organizations even if one employer tend to show intimidation, one is free to walk away and still will be welcomed by other employers.
