Module Module ID: Reality of the Working World By looking into the history of the world atlarge, it becomes evident that humans have always been engaged to various tasks and activities in order to earn their bread and for keeping the wolf from the door. Initially, hunting used to be the most popular mode of obtaining food, attire and dwelling as well, where people killed the beasts, ate their meat and used their skin in order to cover their bodies. Moreover, straws and stones, collected from the forests and meadows, were applied to construct dwellings to reside (Ember & Ember, 89). With the passage of time, trade, cultivation and several other professions were created, and people got affiliated with them according to their aptitude, inclinations, skills and proficiencies. Additionally, experience and exposure about some specific occupation, which was gained through learning or inheritance, also paved the way towards adopting of one particular occupation or the other. As a result, new professions were invented and people got adjusted in them gradually. Thus, anthropological and sociological researches endorse the very fact that technical know-how (i.e. learning and education), aptitude and experience play decisive role in selecting a profession and carrying it out in a profound mannerism. Somehow, the main thing is assessment of one’s abilities and inclinations, which turn out to be supportive in making sure headway in the way to progress and triumphs. Hence, the main thing is one’s propensity and tendencies towards some specific field or profession, so that one could take maximum advantage of his innate talent while performing his professional responsibilities and obligations. If man is forced to get involved into the activities that do not match his innate abilities and mental aptitude, it will become very difficult for him in order to make sure headway on the way to progress and accomplishments. It is not confined to one person or community only; rather, the same can be witnessed by going through the life and achievements of even the most successful people belonging to divergent occupational groups, societies and cultures. By looking into the short but successful life of distinguished Romantic poet of all ages John Keats (1795-1821), we find that his father had suggested medical profession for him, and he had worked as apprentice at a doctor’s clinic; though the call of Seven Muses was too powerful and sonorous one to resist the same, and he bade farewell to medicine, and absorbed himself into poesy creating for the rest of his short life. Similarly, taking the example of Bill Gates, one of the greatest entrepreneurs of the contemporary world, it becomes evident that he had got admission in law studies; somehow, very soon he acknowledged the very reality that his talent was most suitable one for computer sciences and information technology. As a result, he chose computer sciences as his major subject, and obtained higher qualifications in the same; and now, he has become the symbol of technological revolution by dint of his intelligence, wisdom, foresight and taking right decision at the right time. It is therefore he emphasizes upon analyzing of one’s abilities as well as gathering information regarding the alterations being made all around us (Gates, 2). Another important thing, before making any decision with regards to the future prospects includes the estimation of available resources and one’s power to enjoy benefit out of the same. Mere dreaming of achieving one thing or the other does not work altogether. Hence, in order to obtain triumphs in life and for hitting the bull’s eye, one must have profound vision and exposure of the world, so that one can foresee and estimate the situation he is facing in order to combat with the challenges of life. Walljasper & Spayde (2001) lay stress upon discovering the purpose of life in order to make struggle towards the right direction and extract fruitful outcomes out of the same. If man is not clear about the purpose of his life, he can neither establish goals, aims, targets and objectives, nor could he be in a position to achieve them altogether even he is sincere and committed at heart. Moreover, vision grants the humans with the momentum in order to lay out their plans by applying God-gifted abilities in an apposite and powerful manner (Aguirre, 21-22). It is vision that wide opens the horizons of thoughtfulness to the individuals and realizes them that an infinite universe is in wait of applauding their proficiencies provided they exercise the same for the individual and collective benefits. Thus, exploration of the purpose of life is dependent of being visionary, and the vision always stems from making in-depth observation of natural and social phenomena existing all around the humans. A visionary person develops the habit of observing each and every thing in his environment, and draws out concrete conclusions, which distinguishes him from other members of the society, and earns pelf, power, prestige and prosperity for him. It is therefore observation is frequently regarded as the main difference between the successful and unsuccessful persons. On the basis of the same realities, great philosophers including Descartes, Nietzsche, Locke and Kant emphasize upon the imperative significance of observing the universe; and Descartes even refuses such a God, Whose existence could not be proved through His attributes existing all around us (Ariew, 49). Consequently, one should establish dreams and should strive to achieve the same in the light of the realities of life and universe at large, and mere day dreaming and making castles in the air would not bring fruit to life altogether. Thus, applying of the intellect on the concrete foundations of wisdom, knowledge, observation and critical investigation of available information turns out to be supportive in respect of portraying a vivid and explicit picture of the entire scenario, in the light of which the decision regarding the selection of future profession can be made. A visionary approach is also beneficial in respect of making selfless decisions by keeping the interests of the entire social establishment in view. Such kind of mental approach is not only sublime in nature, but also proves man as the possessor of a great mind and compassionate nature as well. It also negates the very idea of becoming a professional just for the pecuniary gains and materialistic benefits. For instance, if a person aims to become a writer for earning money, it would be a selfish thought. On the contrary, he is determined to become a writer for launching crusade against poverty, exploitation, injustices, inequalities and the socioeconomic and moral uplift of the fellow beings, his work turns out to be noble and great in nature and scope. Similarly, a lawyer selects the law profession in order to fight for the cause of the oppressed and downtrodden, he is actually practicing virtue along with performing his professional obligations. To conclude, it becomes evident that although there exist thousands of professions, and different individuals get affiliated with one or more of these occupations, yet there appear only few people that are blessed with the vision, exposure and intellect to select the work that most fits his aptitude and innate talent. Furthermore, an overwhelming majority of the people maintains the objective of earning money and leading a comfortable life in its aftermath; however, a little proportion of the individuals certainly exists that is determined to work in an innovative manner in order to set the fellow humans free from the awkward clutches of poverty, exploitation, backwardness and inequality. Such noble people make selfless efforts by putting aside all ethnic, racial, regional, religious, gender and other discriminations, and dedicate their abilities and services for the humanity at large. These great people are the real leaders of the world, which maintain the ability of bringing revolutionary alterations in their environment. These individuals are revered and adored all over the globe, and people feel pride on associating themselves with them in one way or the other. Consequently, they are loved by all and sundry with deep feelings of love and regards. One should imitate these noble persons, and should not run amuck after pelf, possession, pecuniary gains and popularity. Rather, dedicating one’s talent for the benefit of others makes one great, and turns the world a place worthliving.
