To me, Big Society is a tool for destroying societal peace and tranquility. Big Society places responsibility on the shoulders of a common man who is least interested in having it. Also, Big Society requires the common man to pay more taxes which again he is least interested in paying. Common man finds ways and means to escape the normal tax charges that are imposed on him. Having said that, increased tax requirement would only upset him more! These are two of the obvious demerits of the implementation of Big Society. There are many hidden risks that will show up with time. Even if people pay increased taxes, there is little likelihood that they would get cash from the government in time to do the social work. Even if they do get the cash in time, they would have a hard time consenting to the common use of the money. Even if all people compromise and mutually consent to use the money for a particular cause, everyone would try to leave the work upon others and be a silent viewer. Even if they somehow manage to divide the roles amongst one another fairly so that everyone does his part of the work, they would not be willing to take charge of the service thus produced without added rights over it. Even if they are willing to do that, they would not be able to find time to run the service in addition to their job.

You’ll be carrying a very heavy and unfair burden. That’s just the downside of the “freedom” the Big Society will give everyone. It’s the freedom to free ride! But do you think you can afford the costs when such a small group of you will be paying them? And even if you can, are you going to stay motivated even while many others are taking advantage of you? (Rippon, 2011).

So the service thus produced will be abandoned like an orphan, not to mention that the whole process would flare up a blame game whereby people would blame one another for the bad quality of service. Thus, big society is, by all means, a way to destroy society.

Efforts of a school nurse are directed at promoting learning among the students. “The nurse accomplishes this by implementing strategies that promote student and staff health and safety. The nurse takes a leadership role in serving as the coordinator of all school health programs” (nursesource.org, n.d.). In conventional practice, school nurses achieve their purpose through an organized system led by the government. School nurses not only acquire funding from the government but also are provided with all facilities and resources that are required to improve the students’ learning. They occupy well-defined positions in a well-built system and are well aware of their individualistic roles and responsibilities. In the Big Society, they would be deprived of all these advantages and thus, would not be able to accomplish their goals because of several of the aforementioned reasons.
