He has written 17 novels among them some became international bestselling novels whereas some were adapted for film making (Ragen, p81). He mostly focuses the themes of love, faith, tragedy and fate in his novels and tries to depict the real life experience through his literary contributions. Sparks was born in Omaha Nebraska in the New Year Eve in 1965. He spent early days of his life travelling at different places because his father was a student when he was born. His father was accepted at the University of Minnesota where the family lived for two years and then moved to the University of Southern California where the father for his PH D in 1974. Finally, they decided to settle in Fair Oaks California that was also the birth place of Sparks (Maryles, p12). Sparks did very well at elementary schools and then appeared to be a brilliant student at the high school as well. He also got the scholarship to the University of Notre Dame but things abruptly changed for him when he was injured and went a little insane. He returned home after his freshman year and started spending his days wandering here and there. His mother however, paid attention towards him and insisted that he should focus upon some activities rather doing nothing. She turned his attention towards book writing and after eight weeks he came up with his first novel The Passing that was unfortunately never published. His live took a beautiful turn when he met the girl of his dreams and fall in love at first sight when he saw Cathy in Florida during the spring break. He got married with the girl in 1981 and they became the parents of two children Miles Andrew and Ryan Cody. However, his working career was progressing very slowly. He wrote the second novel The Royal Murder in 1989 but even that was rejected by the publishers and then he decided to leave the writing and concentrate on some other work. He got involved is different part time jobs of his interest like telemarketing and real estate etc. He then started his own business and then became a pharmaceutical representative (Ragen, p81). Sparks was transferred to North Caroline is 1993 where he decided to focus upon his writing career once again and finally wrote his first published novel The Notebook. He wrote this novel over the time period of six month i.e. from June 1994 to January 1995 and it was published in October, 1995 by Warner Books. The novel was widely appraised and millions of its copies were sold across the country (Maryles, p12). After the success of his first novel, he continued with the writing and completed the novel Message in a Bottle. This was another successful literary contribution of Sparks that was also adopted for the motion picture. He continued with his work and wrote the novels Rescue and A Walk to Remember that were also made in to motion picture. After the successful publication of more novels like The Lucky one and A Bend in the Road, Sparks became a well known and popular author and millions of the copies of his novels were sold in the country as well as worldwide (Ragen, p81). Throughout his writing career he pays attention towards reflecting his life experiences and observations in his work and most of his novels carry the messages that he learnt during his own life journey. He commonly portrays the themes of love, romance and fate in this novels and he basically gets the inspiration for these feelings through his personal life. For instance, in his novel The Lucky one, he explains the dynamics of luck and fate and let the readers think that how the lives are totally changes when some unanticipated decisions are taken by people. The author believes that such decisions are basically determined by the fate of people and he proves this expression impressively in the novel. The novel provides his realistic stance regarding the influential role of fate in deciding the decisions and future dimensions of people’ lives and also makes them feel that their fate decides who would be their sole mate and when they will meet her in what circumstances and feelings. The theme of this novel depicts the phase of his own life when his fate turned the direction of his life ad after suffering from an accident he had to leave the college without any prior planning. In the book Nicholas share his sentiments about love that love should not be mistaken with unconditional dedication. The novel deals with universal ideas and theme of true love and touches the nerves due to its reliability and sensitive experiences description. The main theme of both the novels is inspired from original love story. When Sparks saw the loving relationships of her wife’s grandparent he often became surprised. It has been almost 76 years of Cathy’s grandfather marriage but they love each other with same devotion and affection. Sparks believe that this type of love is impossible to find now days. The story of this novel shows that Sparks uses to have very close observations of the life and he picks the ideas for his novels from his surrounding environment.
