Extract of sample "Resistance Training"

'Resistance Training' is a great example of a paper on fitness and exercise.
Resistance training includes varied exercise modalities that entail resistance to externally applied stress. It is a type of training undertaken to achieve various physical and physiological fitness of the body. Strength training includes weight lifting among other exercises. Training programs for the strength training are devised to ensure the variability and specificity of muscle groups developed by such training. Most of the resistance training affects muscles and lead to their adaptation to the external stress on repeated exposure. Muscles tend to adapt and undergo staleness where additional exercise does not lead to any further effect on the muscle. This makes it necessary to vary various resistance-training activities to enhance the productivity of the training.

Resistance training is carried out in accordance with particular individual needs. The following are my needs for training (Brown,2007).

Needs for Resistance Training

Improve Muscle Strength and Tone

The two weeks of resistance training will help develop muscle tone and strength. Muscle strength and tone tends to increase with increased exposure to weights through weight lifting. Hypertrophy results due to exposure of muscle to frequent and varied weights. As a consequence, muscle strength is enhanced due to increased energy consumption by the muscles. The resting and active muscle tones are also enhanced resulting in increased muscle fitness and performance. Consequently, there is an expected increase in the flexibility and fitness of the muscles. The muscle fibers are strengthened, and their force of contraction enhanced. General muscle health is improved, and muscle contractility improves.

Improving muscle strength and tone, resistance exercise provides solutions to, muscle-related problems such as muscle pain. It leads to an increase in circulation through the muscles and increases muscle oxygen consumption. Resistance training also hastens muscle adaptation to stress and reduces the occurrence of fatigue. Muscles can, therefore, perform stressful work without experiencing much fatigue. As a result of the training, the muscle resting muscle tone can contract to give stronger muscle strength. The muscle is there physiologically and physically advanced and becomes more adapted to strain.

Weight Control

Another need for resistant training is to monitor body weight. Resistance training enables the body to utilize the stored fats in the adipose tissues. Fat storage forms the major process of weight gain. Through resistance training, fat storage is depleted. Training will also enhance glucose consumption hence no glycogen store increase results. Weight control is actually achieved by observation of strict training programs, even frequency and improving on other aspects of the training. Resistance training provides an outflow of energy from the body and therefore preventing further weight gains. Weight control is efficiently achieved provided the training is conducted consequently. The burning of free fatty acids in the plasma and utilization of stored fatty acids in adiposities is enhanced by such training. Due to the concern of overweight and obesity, resistance training can provide a remedy for the problem.

Prevention and Control of Pathological Conditions

Unfitness may result in various chronic conditions in the body such as arthritis, diabetes, and heart diseases. Through resistance training, muscle fitness is attained in different systems and parts of the body. The tendons and ligaments of the body are made fit. Because of these processes, chronic conditions such as arthritis can be prevented and controlled adequately. Other condition such as diabetes, which occurs due to poor glucose utilization by the body, is also corrected. Through the two weeks of resistance training, these chronic conditions will be controlled and, therefore, the quality of life enhanced (Brown, 2007)

Improve Mobility and Balance

Skeletal muscles are majorly involved in mobility and balance. As a need to improve mobility and stability, resistance training is of crucial significance. Moreover, improving the muscle strength and tone, mobility and body stamina is greatly enhanced. Various will there before be adapted to target different muscle groups in the body. At the end of the two weeks training session, the overall mobility and balance of the body are expected to improve (Brown, 2007).

Improve posture and Decrease Risk of Injury

Resistance training adapts the body muscles to external stress. As a result of the adaptation, there is less risk of injury due to involvement in rigorous activities. The muscle capacity to carry out various activities is enhanced resulting in low injury hazards. The body posture after the training is also improved. The resistance training schedule among other things should be able to lead to the development of an appropriate position. The muscles supporting body postures like those of the trunk and lower limbs must be strengthened to support appropriate posture. Muscles must also be adapted to strain and able to withstand minor injury, as a result. Injury can be physically or physiologically caused. Physiological damage may be due to the accumulation of lactic acids as a result of inadequate oxygen supply. Resistance training efficiently improves musculature circulation and, therefore, protects the body against such injury. An increase in muscle strength protects the muscles against physical damage caused by heavy loads. Resistance training will, therefore, enhance muscle performance (Brown, 2007)

Overall, the resistance training schedule developed above will effectively meet the individual needs outlined. It focuses entirely on weight lifting exercises, which lead to hypertrophy and the efficiency of various muscle systems in the body. As a result of undertaking the training, the body muscles will become less prone to injury, improve in strength and tone and generally improves the posture. Other chronic conditions associated with muscles will also be remedied.
