The paper “Positive and Negative Entrepreneurial Personality Traits” is an original example of a management dissertation. This paper methodically reviews the character traits that are displayed by entrepreneurs as part of their personalities. Based on data from entrepreneurs across several countries, the research examines the degree to which particular traits manifest among them. The study relies on the literature review to narrow down about five traits, about which the rest of the study revolves.

The prominent research method is the use of the GET test, which usually focuses on various aspects of the Big Five Personality. The research also makes use of alternative tests to assess emotional stability as a personal trait. Based on the data regarding the entrepreneurial ventures for those that received the tests, the study also develops a profile on their level of success. This enables the assessment of the relationship between the degree of risk tolerance and the outcomes of entrepreneurship per individual.

The study concludes that the entrepreneur is likely to demonstrate the need for achievement most prominently. Entrepreneurs also show, on a less prominent scale, the need for autonomy, internal locus of control, low emotional stability, and high-risk tolerance. The last two are regarded as negative personality traits. It is, however, recommended that future research attempts to differentiate between the abilities of the entrepreneur and those of the non-entrepreneur, as well as the possibility of their exhibiting personality disorders.

1 IntroductionSchumpeter (1942) advances the theory of the creative destruction process, which acts as the driver of economic development, and the entrepreneur takes a central place in facilitating this progress. Over time, based on this perception, there have been various perceptions regarding the success of entrepreneurs. According to more recent reports, the majority of entrepreneurs in the world are male, and they have consistently demonstrated different personalities than the conventional manager (Economist, 2009).

The interest in the cognitive, emotional, and psychological setup of the entrepreneur is a relatively new phenomenon.
