The questionnaire is discussed next followed by the survey sample and the secondary sources used. The employees are an essential part of any organization and in order that the organization works efficiently, the performance the employees should be good. In hospitals and medical care foundations, the employees play even a more important role as they are the ones who handle the patients and take care of them(Dunham, K, 2003). The hospitals have to keep the employees motivated and satisfied so that their employees perform at their best and in turn take care of the patients that the hospital has (Beardwell, et.al. 2004).

The behavior, attitude and the willingness to work in the employees in hospitals is very crucial as the health and recovery of the patients lies in the hands of the employees (The Emory, 2008).The Emory Medical Foundation (EMCF) of Emory University School of Medicine is located in Atlanta, Georgia. The foundation seeks to improve the efficiency of its employees for this purpose, the Emory University Human Resource Director asked the managers to examine the reward and recognition program to know whether this program has improved the job satisfaction and performance of the employees or not and how much it has affected the employees.

The aim of this program is to make the patients more satisfied and cared for (Arnold et.al, 2005). This can be done when the employees are more empathetic and caring towards the patients. The program was introduced because it was expected that if the employees are happy and satisfied at their work, then the employees would, in turn, care more for the patients and thus the patients would feel more comfortable as they would care for more with compassion and care and they would improve faster. Thus the program of reward and recognition was introduced system-wide (The Emory, 2008).

The rewards and recognition program consists of things such as recognizing the employee of the month-someone who had done something.
