Z.Z. Packer Drinking Coffee Elsewhere Response   Racial motifs are presented throughout the story. The of the story ensures its leaders that social and racial issues are very much controversial even nowadays. Racial discrimination still exists and this fact is very disappointing. Surely, the struggle for independence had brilliant results, but unfortunately inequality can be traced even today. Different social issues are evident throughout the story. It should be noted that relations of characters are depicted in the most striking manner, though this review does not reflect peculiarities of these relations at all.

There is no serious racial impact described in this review, though the author paid a great attention to controversial relations between white girl scouts and black girl scouts. Moreover, it should be noted that racial concerns of these girls are presented from the perspective of the outsider. This peculiar feature of the author is reflected in this review. The main idea “the hate that hate produced” is reflected and this is presented in this review as well. Reflections of African American students are used by the author as an evident strategy of depiction of racial prejudices of white people exposed in relation to African Americans.

This review underlines relevant considerations about racial issues in the context of globalization. It is claimed that even in the modern world racial attitudes still exist. Therefore, this review is lacking of detailed discussion and there is a lack of coherent connections between different pieces of information presented in the story. Different aspects of racial oppressions are masterfully reflected by Packer. It is evident that there are numerous reflections and bright examples of humorous nature of Packer’s stories.

Nevertheless, the author of this review did not pay much attention to the interesting and peculiar nature of unique anti-racial motifs of Packer. 2. The second review is much more interesting and detailed in comparison with the first one. The author of the review underlines not only importance of racial considerations of Packer about white and black girls, but also he presents personal reflections and ideas concerning racism. Nevertheless, the author of the review claims that opposition between two groups of girls can be applied not only for black and white girls, but also for any other groups of girls.

Deep social concerns of Packer are reflected on the example of Mennonites and their ability to prevail over another group. It seems that the author sometimes emphasizes this dominance. It is also clear that their dominance is disappointing for the author of the review. It is more about social issues and not about racial concerns. Packers’ \insights were impressive for the author of the review and he managed to support his arguments by using of different examples from the story. Packer is focused on racial issues; there is no doubt about that, but social concerns about oppositions between different social groups are also important in the stories by Packer.
