Over the recent past, many factors have emerged concerning increasing the pace toward making the field of mathematics training more professional so as to ensure improvement in the quality of practice as well as standardization of the professional responses. Teacher education and efficiency have for a long time been of critical and symbolical significance in education development at the elementary level. The nation-building of a country fundamentally lies in the hands of the teachers. No matter how good infrastructure, a curriculum or teaching aids may be, what matters at the end of it is the teachers who determine the course of the learners.

Teachers are valuable human resources that a nation can count upon to mold and nurture its young minds. Teachers are primarily at the foundation of the educational process thus the more the significance attached to education whether for human resource development, social justice, and cohesion or for cultural transmission, the more priority should be given to the teachers who are responsible for education. According to Stigler and Hiebert (1997), teaching, just like other professions, has its own challenges.

Most of the challenges exist because learning and teaching are deeply rooted in the human character and dimension. This demonstrates that people do not always act in a rational manner, even when it is in their best interest. In fact, there are numerous challenges that are faced by teachers in the quest to perform their duties such as unmotivated students, overcrowded classes, lack of resources, over-involved or uninvolved parents as well as insensitive and unsupportive administrators. According to Suarez et al. (1991), having a positive attitude towards work is the main determinant of success in teaching.

Teachers with enthusiasm and positive attitudes towards their daily work become very invaluable to the modern-day educational institutions that are becoming more service-oriented.
