? Journalism, mass media, and communication Six Employability Criteria and Professional Development Review (Pdr) Criteria 1 Workplace essentials Why do I think this is important to develop? I think it is important to develop this because it escalates involvement, value-added ethical, heightened worker commitment and enhanced team enactment after workplace. Mathematical abilities will be critical in order to be able to work successfully, especially within the kind of work I would prefer; which is to handle and work with data. For example for entering numerical data into a database, it would be beneficial to understand the values being inputted (Kaplan 2008, p.78). It is also important because it will enable me to be more vigilant when evaluating data and ensuring it is perfect and up to date as in most cases such information are always ongoing projects. In addition, I will be in a position to identify new business openings and open opportunities for the business in order to improve on their statement approaches. What I want to have achieved by the end of the placement At the end of the placement, I hope to have gained more arithmetical skills that will enable me to perform more tasks that require data collection and analysis. Furthermore, I hope to have improved my participation and devotion characters so that I may become an active member in my working place through taking part in various activities. Criteria 2 Oral communication Why do I think this is important to develop? This element is important because it promotes a high level of understanding and transparency in oral communication as it is interpersonal. There is no constituent of inflexibility in verbal communication, which implies that there is tractability for permitting modifications in the decision-making previously taken. In addition, oral communication is a vital tool for teamwork and team determination (Gonon 2008, p.90). Verbal communication endorses an approachable and motivating positivity among workforces. Therefore, because of these benefits of oral communication, I feel it is very important as it allows interaction within the workplace. By employing effective oral communications skills in a team, I stand a good position to share various ideas with my team members. For me to perform tasks efficiently for the project I have to advance my oral communications skills (Useem 2001, p. 85). I have to develop a proficient understanding with other associates and members of the organization, communicating with them in a formal manner using correct grammatical English. For instance, during my placement I was asked to perform a telephone surveys with staff and member from different part of the department. This allowed me to collect qualitative as well as quantitative data from members who are part of the “Business Allowance Programme.” The feedback from the survey questions gave me an insight of how the programme helped set up the individual company. I also spoke to members and patrons, who are members of the organization asking for their opinions on Chamber’s communications, speaking with member allowed me to enhance my technical vocabulary. At the end of the 6-week project, I was asked to produce a report along with a presentation to the employees of the company. This boosted my self-assurance and vocabulary letting me to execute to the paramount of my capacity. Therefore, this experience was a revelation in my field, especially in terms of improving my oral communication. It made me to realize that oral communication is a very essential component in my project and in the world as a whole as I join the working group. In most organizations, a significant number of employers seek out for applicants with good oral communication; therefore, developing such a character is an advantage for future employment opportunities. What I want to have achieved by the end of the placement By the end of this placement, I hope to have enhanced my oral communication using clear vocabularies during any speech I will be allowed to present and make my audience to be attracted. Just like Mark and Kalpna trusted my oral communication skills and my ability to work independently as they just gave me a project brief and left me to work according to my own initiative. This was a task to me but I am glad I succeeded to do my greatest. Thus, I hope that after my placement, I will be able to be more innovative in terms of communication so that I may handle even more challenging situations than the one I had. I also hope that I will able to speak fluent English and be able to communicate freely with my team members or any other person in the process of sharing ideas and inventive information. In addition, I should be able to listen keenly to instructions and information and draft daily communication that fulfills the needs of the organization as well as its standards of lifestyle, format, and accuracy. Criteria 3 Personal growth Why do I think this is important to develop? Personal growth encompasses practices that enhance awareness and identity, establish talents, and potential, as well as create human capital (Wood 2011, p. 37). In addition, personal growth fosters employability, improve quality of life and add to the recognition of ideas and ambitions. Therefore, this element is important because it enables me to realize that I can do more than I think I can; which implies that I can realize the dreams inside me well. This can be proved from the experience I had during the time I was conducting my placement. I had a project I needed to carry out, which included analyzing data through reports and case studies. Unfortunately, I noted that I had very little knowledge and desired to improve on this. Therefore, is sought the help of Mark and Kalpna who explained that I will need to conduct a thorough report of data analysis of metrics and qualitative data. This helped me to experiment and develop my goals for the future in project management. I was given an outline of what must be done from there I conducted my own ideas. I had little help from others but when needed I did not hesitate to ask. I was grateful for the opportunity as it gave me a chance to pick up new skills that could be useful in future and will help with my personal growth. Thus, at the end of the project, I was able to realize my abilities in data analysis, hence improving my personal growth. Therefore, this element is very important and should be recommended to anyone who feels needs to develop their individual growth. What I want to have achieved by the end of the placement After this placement, I hope to have improved greatly my personal growth so that I can be in a position to carry out more projects that require data analysis. In this case, I mean that is should be able to know my identity and have personal awareness concerning my dreams and ambitions so that I can be able to work towards achieving them in the future. It is always vital to realize your dreams in order to live a purposeful life. It is very risky living alike with nothing to work towards for, thus I hope that this element will help me out because it is not late for me. Criteria 4 Problem solving Why do I think this is important to develop? Problem solving element is important because it provides a good opportunity to solve issues within an organization without difficulties (Knight 2003, p. 167). It also improves or provides skills necessary for problem solving. Just as it was during my placement, I realized that there was a problem in the chamber of commerce in terms of e-communication between staff. I decided to carry out a research concerning the reasons as to why the organization was having difficulties. I achieved this research using questionnaires and at the end, I was able to find the best solution for the company, which was approved, and the report filed. What I want to have achieved by the end of the placement At the end of this placement, I hope to be able to choose suitable approaches for communication and transferring information. Additionally, I should be in a position to listen to and resolve concerns in relation to workplace issues, especially within scope of my personal role, and resolve work related difficulties, which may contain conflicts. Criteria 5 Ownership Why do I think this is important to develop? Ownership is a very vital element to me because it enables me to be an influential person at my work place (Smit 2007, p. 75). Therefore, I tend to establish this aspect because for me to achieve any goal set, I have to organize and manage myself well. Ownership means being punctual at any event that I need to attend. It also implies accomplishing my duties at the set time, and being disciplined at all time. By having this, values, a person stands a good chance of prospering at their workplaces. A good number of employers currently seek for employees who are able to self-manage themselves. This is because they know that having ownership component, a person is able to deliver to the organization positively. Thus, because of this reason, I have to nurture this element in my life so that I may be in apposition to get a chance to work with the most prominent organizations. What I want to have achieved by the end of the placement I would like to attain response on work performance and recognizing opportunities for improvement at the end of this placement. Accordingly, I hope to achieve an understanding of work anticipated at workplace. I also want to be able to manage time and priorities particularly with duties needed for personal role. Therefore, these are some of the things I wish to achieve at the end of the placement in order to be in position to be a productive worker at all levels within my reach. Criteria 6 Customer orientation Why do I think this is important to develop? This element is important because it provides an opportunity to customers to have a clear understanding of what they expect to get in organization (Saunders 2003, p. 40). Clients also get the chance to view the services and products the organization is introducing before deciding whether they will buy the product or not. Customer orientation helps boast the image of an organization or its products and services being offered. This is achieved by making necessary advertisement and promotions regarding a particular product and providing logistics as a means of attracting clients. What I want to have achieved by the end of the placement By the end of the placement, I want to achieve excellent skills in developing better customer orientation knowledge. This is because with such knowledge and capabilities, I will be able to develop a good image for myself and for the organization that I will be working for. Customer orientation enables a person to develop the virtue of self-management and self-esteem. This is because in order to be in apposition to appeal to customers, someone has to have confidence and be patient because not all the people approached concerning the issue at hard will respond positively. Thus, unless I have patience and self-esteem concerning my work, I may not be able to succeed. The Principles of Effective Interpersonal Relationships and Team Working There is need for work to be performed as fast as possible in the current world. Thus, for this reason, working experts require to have relationships between each other. Healthy proficient relationships can be sustained by operative workplace communication and teamwork (Cushman 2004, p. 45). Interpersonal associations progressively develop with respectable team involvement and communication with other affiliates. The whole thing at work relies on decent associations between workers and the administration. Interpersonal relationships at work are vital, because they assist workers to have a common consideration amid themselves. It is noted that powerful interpersonal relationships at work results into motivation among workers (Trent 2011, p. 67). The main advantage of having interpersonal relationships is that it promotes teamwork at workplaces. If there are healthy interpersonal relationships in the team members, they certainly tend to work cooperatively towards the suggested objective. Collaboration also results into a vigorous work setting. Workers feel great if there is a favorable setting at the workplace. In case workers have a shared understanding with each other, there are very less probabilities of any sort of workplace conflicts. Communication is the main principle of effective interpersonal relationships and team working to be exercised at the workplace (Mullins 2007, p. 234). This is because without operational interpersonal communication, there will not be a smooth and clear flow of concepts and opinions thus leading into total confusion. An honest expert will always talk to other administrators, by looking directly into their eyes. It is also vital for workers to smile while talking to each other because a smile makes other to feel comfortable and more relaxed and it will be apparent in the tone while on the phone. Another principle involves treating others with respect; this implies that it is vital for everyone to respect team members in order to improve on interpersonal relationships and teamwork. Accordingly, another principle to effective interpersonal relationships and teamwork is paying attention to others by listening keenly to their views without interrupting. Processes and Skills Involved In Being Effective In Work Roles. In order to be effective in work roles, it is vital to develop good communication skills at work place. This enables a person to communicate clearly on intellectual and emotional levels, thus enabling the person to express their feelings and suggestions in an open and non-intimidating manner (Orner 2009, p. 29). Having good communication skills also facilitates the process of enquiring and reflecting on the activities and interactions of the team and motivates other members to do so as well. It is also important to have personal responsibility and accountability in work roles (Brandler 2012, p. 34). Another process and skill for being effective in roles is the constructive response and problem solving ability; in this process, team members assist the team to create and employ strategies to their team objectives. Intrinsically, they can simplify team in making choice and deal efficiently with complications. It is also essential for team members to acknowledge their roles and ensure that they maximize their individual and other`s experiences. My Own Strengths and Weakness or Areas for Development during My Placement Personal analysis is one of the most complex things to carry out but plays a very important place in our individual progress (Guidance Centre 2005, p. 10). The individual skills enquiry aids me to identify my strong point, flaws, and areas for improvement during my placement. Talking about my individual strengths is an inspiring duty that needs me to concentrate on the resilient points that make up my character. Trying not to express in such an uncertain way concerning oneself, nevertheless present a reassuring attitude on my strengths, necessitate me to scrutinize the abilities that makeup the positive dynamism that motivates my day – to -day life (Salmon 2002, p. 59). Nonetheless, to express my weaknesses, is to challenge myself to take control over the areas that require some redefining of certain skills in order to achieve eventual accomplishment in life. My existence is not definite by flaws, but more so the developer of my individual strong point. While I may not have a powerful talent in articulating myself, I have the tendency to shy away from the truth, and thus I should learn to emphasis straight at what is being specified more evidently. In addition, I do converse on a decent level, I have the tendency of being loyal, generous, and seem to be a clear thinker and a problem solver.     On the other hand, I have a weaknesses is assertiveness. I always I do not have the capability to express myself vehemently. This could partially come from what I contemplate as having a weak aptitude in spelling. However, having a weakness in spelling English words does not stop me from having a verbal conversation, although I can relax my thought process when endeavoring to communicate those same feelings on paper. While my comprehension of the language being conversed comes across quite clear, I find that when faced with new verbosity, I store the word for future use after I retrieve the right spelling.     Another weakness is my willingness to be alone; I understand this is a weakness because more times than often, one must rely on other people to help guide them through life as well as business. As Kaplan (2008, p.45)discusses, it is hard to judge your own strengths and weaknesses; and these can also be bias opinions. Therefore, as suggested by Kaplan, I have received personal feedback in the form of my last placement report. Through discussing this report, I found that my strengths include many areas of professionalism; such as my interview, in where I presented myself in smart formal attire and held good conversation, but also showing my keen interest and intelligence of the company. Before my interview, I had heavily researched the company, from its production pieces, to the business sector it was involved in; this keenness and research seem to highlight professionalism as my strength. Throughout my placement, my initiative was also highlighted in many areas of work (James 2001, p. 30). For example, no matter what the project or task, I would always be asking to finish any forgotten tasks and tie up loose ends. This keen attitude and organization of wanting to complete work can also be seen as my strength. However, the one main weakness shown by the report was an obvious lack of self-confidence. For example, I would always need to ask for approval and guidance when undertaking a task. Although this may not seem too bad, it was my way of coping with the responsibilities I was given. I felt uncomfortable taking responsibility for tasks; and so I would agree that this issue to a lack of self-confidence in me is a weakness of mine. I fully agree with Kaplan in that finding your strengths and weaknesses requires soliciting of feedback from employers; and have identified my main strengths and weaknesses.
