Your full full July 14, How to get a Job in Information Technology In the professional life of any person, there come many challenges, which one must face with full confidence and self-assurance in order to succeed. One of these challenges is to find a suitable job and progress in professional field. Finding a suitable job is not an easy task, as it requires a lot of struggle and commitment. For an IT job applicant, finding a job is not as simple as it seems to be considering the rapid advancements in technology and the need of the recruiters to employ a large number of IT professional to meet the needs of the changing technological environment. In reality, IT professionals have to do some more to get a suitable job after completion of their four years professional degree. They need more certifications, more skills, and some experience in order to get a job they have ever wanted. In this paper, we will review some of the main things that IT job applicants need to do to increase their employment chances in the IT sector companies. Gain Some Entry-Level Experience Today, IT recruiters look for added skills when they look for employees. They look for special skills, certifications, and enthusiasm towards work while recruiting individuals. Even if a person has a right set of skills related to the job he/she is applying for, the recruiters ask for some entry-level job experience and practical job related skills during interviews. This experience also refers to the projects that a candidate might have completed during graduation. Therefore, participating in the programming lab courses offered by the university and completing IT based projects also add to the experience of the job applicants. The entry-level experience can also come if a person does a job for at least six months or one year after completion of education at some comparatively low profile IT center because getting a job in such companies is somewhat easier than fully professional and reputed companies. After getting some initial hands-on experience at such centers, a person can apply for a job in reputed companies because in that way they get the initial experience that IT recruiters usually look for in job applicants. Acquire and Maintain Soft Skills and Job Related Skills Another thing that IT job applicants need to do is to keep their professional working skills intact while getting training or doing job in a low profile IT center. The reason is that IT job is a comparatively less formal job as compared to other jobs, such as, accounting, engineering, and marketing. IT jobs are basically task-oriented jobs in which more focus of a person is on the completion of assigned tasks within time than on the job environment. It is not the case in every IT center but in most of the centers, people are required to get things done in any possible way. In such an environment, people may distract their attention from some essential professional work skills, such as, professional communication skills, time management skills, dressing attitudes, and teamwork skills. Therefore, it is essential for the IT job applicants to pay special attention to the addition of these soft skills because almost every recruiter wants his/her employees to have a professional work attitude with all essential job skills. Prepare Well for Interviews Another very important thing that IT job applicants need to when applying for jobs is to prepare themselves for interviews. IT recruiters usually look for people who have the ability to demonstrate themselves perfectly during interviews. They need the applicants to articulate their selling points, talk about themselves, and tell the recruiters what special they have with them that can prove beneficial for the company. It is very important for the IT job applicants to be able to tell recruiters about their soft skills and job related skills because IT recruiters like to hire such employees who have the ability to express themselves properly. Education Qualification As far as the qualification of IT job applicants is concerned, it should be at least Bachelor’s in Information Technology (4 years) or Bachelor’s in Computer Science (4 years). This qualification is considered essential for the IT job applicants to get a well-paying job. In some low profile companies, recruiters may also consider a relatively low educational qualification but the job applicants need to have certifications of some basic programming languages along with diploma to get a good job even in those companies. Some recruiters from such companies also say that they look for networking skills, programming skills, and familiarity with networks and languages more than the formal qualification of candidates. They take job tests before selecting the candidates and if a candidate gets a good score in those tests, he/she is selected even if he/she does not have full four years of educational qualification. However, recruiters from public sector and well-reputed companies say that they give the jobs only on educational merit. The more a candidate is qualified and has experience and certifications, more will be the chances for him/her to get final selection. Summing it up, in public sector companies, four years Bachelor’s study is essential for the job applicants to get the job. However, in private companies, recruiters may select individuals based on their programming skills and certifications courses. CISCO Career Certifications – Career Path for Network Professionals Another important thing that IT job applicants need to do is to complete some certification courses before applying for the jobs. There is no requirement of a degree to get admission in these courses. Some of the main courses that are considered very important for a person to broaden his/her chances of getting a well-paying job include CCENT (entry-level certification), CCNA (associate level certification), CCNP (professional level certification), and CCIE (expert level certification). Cisco Certified Entry Network technician (CCENT) is basically the first part of the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) exam. A person aiming to do CCNA should first do the (CCENT) in order to the basic knowledge of networking technologies. This certification covers all skills, such as, network security, configuration of simple networks, and troubleshooting that a person needs to get an entry-level job. A person having CCENT certification only needs to pass the second part of the exam to get the CCNA certification. Having gained the entry-level experience of 1 to 2 years, a person should do CCNA to get an advanced level job. CCNA certification makes a person able to troubleshoot, operate, and install medium-sized switched and routed networks. Network specialists need to do CCNA Routing and Switching to increase their value in the network of employers. After working for 1 to 2 years as a network associate, a person should do Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) to increase the chances of promotion. CCNP certification makes a person able to manage local and wide area networks and complex networks. CCNP certified professionals usually perform the role of support engineer, network engineer, and system engineer in companies. After doing CCNP and working for a few years, a person should do Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE), which is considered the most cherished and valued networking certification in the IT industry at present. After completing this certification, a person can get a very good job and a handsome salary package at any reputed IT company. Summing it up, getting a good job is a challenging task for people from any field of life. It takes years of professional practice to achieve the desired job position.
