Logical vs. Physical Models Process models are a compilation of separate pieces of individual processes. At the type level, a process is also recognized as a process model. It is out of this that it is understood that process modeling is the concept of bringing together different process or various levels of processes to bring about a process model for the achievement of a particular goal. Process modeling is imperative in system design and analysis. The importance of the process modeling cannot be defined generally but is rather defined into several parts. Keeping track of the actual developments during the process is one of the critical aspects of the model. Taking the viewpoint of an independent outside base is another responsibility of the model and this assists in understanding the areas that require improvements. Process modeling also assists in defining the desired processes and understands the best manner through which the general system can incorporate it. Process modeling is important for it establishes the patterns that ought to be followed for the consequence of getting a particular desired result. Providing details on the rationale taken in the processes is another responsibility of process modeling. Exploring the courses of the various arguments that are brought up in the development of the process is the task of the process model. Establishing a link between the requirements of various processes and the actual processes is another importance of process modeling. It also defines points where data is extracted for reporting and analysis. A logic model is a type of analysis tool that is used by analysts to identify the effectiveness of particular computer programs. There are times that a particular project may fail and it is the responsibility of the analyst to identify the best logic model to employ and consequently understand the importance of having an overall haul of the system (Dennis, 2012). Using the logic model, the manager has the ability to understand the processes that can lead to increased investment, thus categorize them as either important or disposable, and consequently understand the course of action. A logic model is also used for program evaluation. In the past, program evaluation has always been used using an insider in the system. However, in contemporary days, new reasoning has been brought about by this model and it has helped in identifying and resolving some problems in the evaluation of a program. Some other uses of this model include assisting the database in understanding the current situation in which they aim to impact. The model also assists the database to analyze what would be achieved by incorporating a certain strategy and determining whether it will make the organization develop. Through this model, the database has the ability to recognize some weaknesses in the operating system and this is because it makes it carries out a critical review of the performance to understand the changes needed to achieve goals (Phillips, 2009). The model is vital for the system as it serves as incentives for an analyst to recommend to an organization manager how to develop or rather integrate a training plan where the employees get instilled new skills that will serve them adequately in their transformation to a new technology. The model has additional responsibilities of coordinating the activities that ought to be carried out in order to implement the changes made by the manager. Moreover, it assists the manger in identifying the resources that the particular organization requires in order to achieve its goals. Another type of model common in process modeling is the physical model. The model covers the general database management system analyzes its strengths, weaknesses and the facilities of a particular project. A physical model contains the relationships between the various tables involved in data management and the artifacts in the database. To calculate storage estimates, analysts use this model over the logic model. Indexes and clusters are a result of the physical model and they are commonly used in large organizations to determine the output of the workers since they are very accurate. The commercial marketplace is made of around seven databases (Schenk, 2012). These databases are useful in different ways and are used in different sectors. In the business environment, the database used is with accordance to the size of the organization. For large organizations, the databases used have huge storage memory to store a lot of information while smaller organizations require even smaller memory spaces. Other use of the physical model is in academic institutions and mainly the libraries of these institutions. With the advent of the 21st century, most academic institutions have gone digital with almost all their learning processes. It is common for teachers to post assignments in the class database where the students of the particular class log in and get information. For this, a small physical model database is required. However, for the library of such an institution, a larger database is required since it ought to be accessed by members of the whole institution including the teaching fraternity. The relationship between the physical and the logic model is that the physical one comes prior to the logic one where a system analyst identifies the needs of a particular system through physical modeling (Tiller, 2011). After identifying the needs, the analyst has the responsibility of incorporating the logic model that gets deeper into the system and analyzes the various key concepts that may be improved to have the system working more effectively. This is imperative for organizations as it assists in the coordination of various concepts in the general development process. It is not necessary to model the physical and logical characteristics of the current systems and this is because it is a waste of time and resources. However, after an upgrade, there should be the incorporation of logical and physical characteristics of the new system so that it can perform efficiently in line with the developments in system design. A system analyst can skip the creation of one of these models but cannot skip both of them.
