The aim of this project is therefore to consider several factors that need to be considered while moving from low to high-field magnetic resonance. These impacts form both the advantages and disadvantages of using the MRI. Some of the advantages of moving from a low magnetic field to a high magnetic field include enhanced image quality, increased signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), increased spatial resolution, decreased scan time, and maximum patient comfort (Duyn, 2010). These benefits explain the significance attached to moving from low to high magnetic field resonance.

Nonetheless, the project will consider certain shortcomings that should be equally checked. Some of these disadvantages include increased SAR, image artifacts, dielectric effects, artifacts, and several safety issues.

Thirdly, this project would look into the impacts brought about by the use of high magnetic field imaging. Through this perspective, the project would consider several clinical applications that engage the use of the high magnetic field. Some of these applications include musculoskeletal, neuroimaging, and spectroscopy among others (Medved, 2010). An in-depth analysis of the elements described above would help in ascertaining the necessary considerations that ought to be noted when shifting from low to high-field magnetic resonance (Regatte & Schweitzer, 2009).

  • Literature review and discussion

There are several types of research that have been performed on MRI and the ways through which they can be improved. Shifting from the low MRI of 1.5 teslas to the high MRI of ≥3 Tesla has largely changed the perceptions held about magnetic resonance imaging. Several health institutions have proposed the improvement from low magnetic field MRI to high magnetic field MRI (Duyn, 2010).

Magnetic resonance plays a crucial role in diagnosing stress fractures, it offers a perfect means through which acute changes in the body structures and cartilage can be identified. There are several advantages and disadvantages attached to shifting from low to high magnetic resonance. Since the introduction of the 3 Tesla magnetic resonance machines, several improvements have been made in the field of imaging (Bradley, 2010). Several health institutions have opted to migrate from low to high MRI machines. The following are some of the advantages of using the 3-tesla scanners over the 1.5-tesla scanners.

    • Advantages

The benefits of shifting from low to high-field strength MRI imaging have been illuminated to be of great significance. Most research studies have confirmed that the clinical utilities of 3.0 Tesla vs. 1.5 Tesla not only show signal-to-noise ratio, but also the contrast to noise ratio, diagnostic sensitivity, and even specificity. Below are some of the most common advantages attributed to shifting from low to high MRI (Bradley, 2010).
