Challenges for Healthcare Administrator Vision, mission, values, and culture  Vision and mission are one of the most important aspects of a health organization, as they set the course of action for the administrator and the team. A daunting challenge in this regard is bending the mission/vision with the practical measures that the management can humanly take. It is one thing to set the course and quite another to walk that line. Therefore the administrator needs to incorporate certain elements that might not resonate with the staff but they certainly do with the patients, for instance; patient comfort and care is the primary obligation of a healthcare facility, this needs to go straight into vision/mission.

Culture represents a lesser challenge in comparison with vision/mission challenges. Culture is evolutionary, even if it’s a health organizational culture. The real challenge here is to make people live according to visualized culture. The soul of the organization reflects through this culture. Organizational structure  Simplification is the biggest challenge faced under organizational structure heading. Clearly defined roles for the staff are mandatory, without that there can be confusion which can lead or organizational chaos.

For instance, brain surgery is a very complicated form of surgery and needs to be delegated with due care. In regards with the organizational structure, there needs to be certain parameters that influence in setting the course. For instance it depends a lot on the nature of organization, if it’s a profit or non-profit organization. In the latter, director independence is paramount as conflict of interest can arise with the duties of a director (governanceinstitute.com). Physician relations and collaborative relationships among health services professionals  Quality improvement is the greatest adhesive in strengthening relationships for healthcare professionals.

Retaining, successful and long-term relationship with physicians and professionals is a huge challenge but it is in itself very rewarding. It provides the building block for constructing a successful healthcare facility. Governance  Governance Assessment Program (GAP) needs to be woven in the structural fabric and in itself quite a challenge. This way the organizational board gets scrutinized (americangovernance.com) and performs according to the vision/mission. Sources Governance Assessment Program (2012).
