Colin Brewster’s sport shop which is a business venture increasingly finding themselves facing external pressure to improve their ethical track record. The significant feature is the rise of consumer activism which is thus luring the scrutiny of the business (Isbister, 2001). The event therefore seems free from maims or rather the exploitation of the consumer. Thus ethical consumerism is a characteristic positive purchasing in that ethical products are highly favored. Thus the emergence of ethical consumerism and green brands which in the long run identify themselves as ethical entities which have spearheaded ethic based decisions in the global market. This has been facilitated by the escalated comprehension and adequate data concerning business practices (Nina Mazar, 2009)). Thus corporations are seen to work ethically and improving the ethical standards in their business. In this case the sole of the sports shop is not concerned with the daily activity of his consumers. The river city committee is liable for any eventful harm caused to their kids due to inadequate responsibility. 2. Brewster advertisement Brewster has so far recently released a series of adverts. One of them is portrayed as youngster who is an accomplished skateboarder performing fancy and fascinating tricks that is flip and turns. The advertisement showed that any other person could perform the acrobatics with much ease as the kid. With a harsh end a kid trying such gymnastics after having purchased the products had broken limbs. The committee however is against this as they perceive the advert as is misleading permitting the kids to do such moves. Conversely this advert is engineered for the target market as youngsters prefer being smart especially in their moves. This is hence geared towards promoting the business and moreover increases the sales of skateboards. Hence cannot criticize the advert. Brewster further defends himself that the advert is not intended for everyone as not all people will be capable to perform these tricks. For instance a car travelling at a very high speed while doing crazy stunts implies that all people should drive in a similar manner. Though the committee deems this as deceptive and hence the sole should not make such adverts public as it would pose a danger to the consumers. This is not true as the responsibility of the parents is to know the whereabouts of their kids and ensure their wellbeing but not the product seller. Thus Brewster should not publicize the dangers of skateboarding. Furthermore the sales of the business will dilapidate and in this event predominant losses. 3. Responsibility of the sole During the past decade policies that concern consumer protection have so far received much attention in the public sphere. For example when youngsters get hurt during their daily interaction with products from the retail shop positions them at a more dangerous position rather than when not. Hence the public outcry is more pronounced due to the committee which raise complains. Firms can achieve profits through fair behavior towards the consumers from the sell of human friendly products which would cause least or rather no harm to the consumer (Freeman, 1996). This hence makes the seller more aware of the products he sells and thereby the safety of the consumer. Therefore, the willingness of consumers to pay for proper ethical behavior of firm’s chooses itself not only from firms that are apt in higher standards at higher prices but also ensuring legal regulation is adhered to. 4. Steps taken to ensure skateboard safety Brewster should in this case apart from promoting the products in his retail outlet should also actively sensitize the kids of the dangers associated with skateboards. As the committee suggested that he should publicly relay the hazards of skateboards apart from the statistical sales of his products. Moreover, the committee persisted that when purchasing such products he should ensure that the clientele reads the material concerning the risk posed. Hence first the consumer should know the risks he puts himself into and then decide whether to purchase the product or not. This should be ensured by the retailer who is responsible for ensuring client’s safety before the procurement of his products. 5. Significant considerations Therefore, for the firm to express the outcomes of regulation on ethical concerns of the client whether regulations can be undermined. The firm would like to ensure certain standards of legal regulations such as consumer safety are upheld. Apart from considering the regulation of fairness its principles should be ensured. Thus as a result of ethical behavior it will enforce increased ground of fairness contrary levels of ethical behavior would be lowered without such regulations in existence. On the other hand retailer and local government intervention facilitate Brewster sends signals of ensured ethical standards as the retailer’s obligation (Isbister, 2001). Thus regulations would lead the consumers to enforce fair firm character above the regulations prescribed. Conclusion and recommendation Business ethics is characterized by both normative and descriptive dimension however, when faced with an ethical dilemma arbitration of the norm is fundamental for the benefit of both parties. This is epitomized in skateboard business. Thus it is recommended that the comprehension of the behavior of business requires descriptive methodologies which involve the relationship between profit maximizing behavior and non-economic concerns such as healthcare issue (free from broken limbs). In this incident it involves ethical issues such as: taking unfair advantage, whereby the committee members do not consider that the firm is an income generating peripheral. On the other hand another ethical issues is allowance of false impression where the advert used is more virtual that a reality.
