NAME INSTITUTION CIT 360 DATA WAREHOUSE AND BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE COURSE DATE Introduction This report is written as a view of the data warehouse and the business intelligence implementation in a form or a company. Several features are addressed in the report with them being; proper and understandable meaning and definition of the terms, the characteristics each has as well as the limitations and advantages accompanying the. Besides, the help of the BI system in several companies, as well as the use of data warehouse in the firms, has been addressed too for the success of the easy. 1.0 Data Warehouse 1.1 Characteristics of the data warehouse. The data warehouse has a number of characteristics. They include the user of the data produced, the change and marketing management, the ETL (Extract, Transform and Load), the metadata, the business on board, the model of data, the executive sponsor as well as the team to the project. 1.1.1 The team of the project. The team in a project is the backbone of the success of s particular business enterprise. It runs from hierarchically from the executive sponsor all the way to the development staff, data modeller and the analysis of the specific business. The project manager follows the executive sponsor and is found to be the overall manager of the project on board. He is responsible for directing the team as well as the direction to which the project is headed for. He works hand in hand with the executive sponsor for the successful results in the project management. The manager collects important information concerning the project from non-team members as well as an elimination of the obstacles faced by the project's team. (Poe, 2007) Alongside is the project manager is the technical lead whose role is to execute what the business requires for the completion of the project. He also makes sure that the implemented warehouse can be supported by the standards of operation in the organization of IT. Other members in the category include the Business lease, the charge manager as well as a data modeller. 1.1.2 Metadata The sector of metadata is a sensitive area in a company though most overlooked warehouse for data. He is responsible for communicating to the out and input data to the staff support as well as the users. The metadata gives into account inform of and documentation explaining to the user and the staff about the working measures for the system. If a good quality maintenance to the quality. (English, 2009) 1.1.3 Extract, Transform and Load. The primary feature of the process of the data warehouse is found to be the extract transforms as well as the load. The process is necessary for data extraction as well as in connecting in transaction systems of a single or multiple numbers of systems. The rules of a business determine the kind of transformation that is applicable. The rules are stated through the organization's business leads thus enabling the system to log into all the data models that are important for the company. Therefore, it is revealed that the ETL can be coded in various language thus the ETL tools necessary for use in the process of management in a company’s project. (Poe, 2007) 1.1.4 Change and marketing management. This is an important characteristics of data warehouse. It is a public relation of networking that is mainly used in large companies. Here the users rely on the information given to them by the organization about the data warehouse progress besides outlining the functional areas of the warehouse which are ready for use. Lack of high usage of the data warehouse can lead to a great downfall of the damage to the building as well as the downfall of the project in absence of the high business levels. It is, therefore, the responsibility of the change manager to ensure that there is a good flow of communication as well as be in a position to handle all the cases cropping in the organization, early enough before damage is caused. The initiative can perfectly work after general meetings are being held. The meeting should involve the representatives from the various functions who are used to the warehouse which includes the software and the hardware as well. The minutes are taken in the meetings then need to be build up and published and distributed to the society. (Poe, 2007) Besides, the perception of the absence of data warehouse makes the users away from turning to the warehouses of data. The data warehouse is put at risk when there is a sign of existing issue portrayed by the users of the data warehouse with or without quality issues of data. (English, 2009) 1.1.5 users When a data warehouse is loaded with a good quality data, the probability of having the results are unsuccessful are high. If the user ca not access the data, then the data warehouse is of no use. Therefore, during the planning of the project, the issue of the user being unable to access hot data need to extremely need to be handled. Numerous ways of getting data out of the warehouse are available on board with each method being targeted to a specific user. Therefore, the required advanced model for the acquisition of data which will help in predicting the analysis through using a model of statistics. (Poe, 2007) 1.2 Advantages of a data warehouse. The warehouse of data has got a wide range of advantages. They are predefined in the project where the warehouse is found to be resilient to failure. The outdated system of data warehouse ant its appliances was found to compile together data warehouse software and hardware thus many thus many benefits get to the company. In multiple systems of data sources, the management has to choose from a wide range of choices as a way of ensuring there is quality management assurance of data as well as integrating the processes. Besides, this helps in the BI support machine as well as testing the capability of analysing data. As a way of boosting the organizations’ performance, the appliance of the data warehouse is implemented thus more space and capacity added to the system thus a different type of data analysis type. The data warehouse is also viewed as a gateway to the analytics as well as Business Intelligence since they are found to be easily perceived on implementation as compared to the older data warehousing. (English, 2009) 1.3 how organizations benefit from the data warehouse Organizations benefit greatly from data warehouse since it gives support to the OLAP (online analytical processing) thus facilitating the end user with high levels of gain in their operations under the business field. Iut5 is made a success by the iterative and the interactive accessibility of the stored data. From this, we get the executives of the business improving on their strategies of the corporation as well as the decision-making operations. (English, 2009) 2.1 business intelligence Business intelligence can be defined or referred to as a bracket that covers a diversity of applications of software which are used in the analysis of company’s unprocessed data. It is a discipline with various related projects which entail the processing of analysis online, reporting, mining of data as well as querying. (Liautaud, 2006). For the successful implementation of business intelligence, one needs to assess the quality and the amount of data for the business that is available, the levels needed by the business in the creation of implementation of Business intelligence as well as making assessment on the commitment and sponsorship levels that the project requires a senior management of a project. 2.2 characteristics of business intelligence The business intelligence has got numerous characteristics. Therefore there is a need of assessment of the personalized dashboard by the executives thus bringing about the delivery of clear and easily understandable summary of the information received and analysed regularly as scheduled. Besides, the reporting’s that are made an exception are required to signal the executives to con=duct an inspection on the least expected scenarios as well as events that need actions upon them. (Liautaud, 2006). Delivery of personalized data brings an understanding of the ability of the executives to make decisions easily and quickly in absence of any guessing as well as in absentia of passing through a diverse making of irrelevant data and details. 2.2.2 Layer of Metadata. The presence of metadata in an organization eases the reporting thus eliminating the necessities and needs for SQL and coding. This allows the reporters as well as the users to assess and view the information in a simpler language as used in the field of business. There is a sole interaction of the users with the data that is at the Metadata level with no comprehending of the complexity of the database or data underlying the situation. (Turban, 2011) 2.2.3 Reports interaction. The users are helped to convert the data on board into knowledge by the interactive reports recorded. The users are given a chance to understand better the analysis in the reports and records as well as the data underlying that the reports are based on. It helps in the aid and support of-of better and improved ways of decision making. Therefore the users are expected to be in opposition to dice and conduct slices of OLAP analysis as well as drill through a report as well as drill down a report. Also, the user should be able to use the formatting conditions in the data setting thus highlighting the exceptions in the data as well as using a series of the timeline in the zooming and scanning of a wide set of information with the aim of understanding their data’s anomalies. (Liautaud, 2006). 2.2.4 Analysis of “what if” These analyses open a field for the business to conduct the assessment on the potential effects on the business’ critical decisions prior to activation and their amendment to the business organization. Therefore the implementation of the BI system should be highly considered before the adjournment of the project. (Liautaud, 2006). 2.5 Value added by BI to the business organizations. Many firms have been able to maintain their data where most of it is left untapped with an economic force to give more data despite the fact that the data at hand is less. Therefore the Business intelligence can give a hand in the decipher of data in the companies thus leading to an addition of the static value to the firms. (Turban, 2011) 3.0 Conclusion Several companies including the EMAAR, DUBAL, Emirates and the UEA have benefitted from business intelligence as well as the data warehouse. They have been able to gain knowledge on investment, the advantages and limitations accompanying the same and the most important characteristics the need to know before the adjournment of their projects.
