PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROFILE Name: Tutor Institution Course Date PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROFILE Skills that I need to develop in the future, both professionally and personally Accountancy The skills that I need to develop in this professional are expertise and knowledge. These are important skills in regard to the profession of accountancy. This is because it is a profession that requires more of accuracy than most other professions. Keeping of accounting records is a very crucial part of the organization because it deals with funds. This is because finances play an important role in the organization hence; the need to be keen on it. The skill of expertise will help me in handling the accounting and keeping of records better than in the absence of it. If I become an expertise in the profession means that I can handle any problem. It means that I will be in a good position to handle any challenge that this comes up in the organization regarding accountancy1. I also need to develop the skill of knowledge in accountancy. That is to mean that I will have all relevant information regarding accountancy including emerging issues and trends. This skill will help me keep up with new issues and developments in accountancy and be in a position to apply them in the organization. Planning strategy There are several skill that I need to develop in this part both professional and personal skills to enhance my effectiveness in the organization. I need to improve my skill of strategic planning. This involves coming up with a plan that I will work on and be in a position to implement it effectively. I will develop this skill by drawing a plan with all tasks to accomplish and set the time period for achieving the tasks. The plan should also contain any resources to be used and how to get them in case they are not available. I also need to set priorities right, It is an important skill because it will enable me build up a list of the tasks that I need to perform in an organized manner. I will be in apposition to give the tasks in the plan priorities depending on which task is more important than the others. The personal skill that I need to work on is effective time management. This will assist me in achieving the target set according to the plan made. Time management is very important in planning and implementing plans in the organization because it ensures achievement of the plan within the time period given. Effective telephone calls I need to develop my speaking and listening skills so that telephone conversations are effective enough and achieve the aim of the communication. It involves listening to others as we communicate via the telephone and give them the chance to speak and express their views and concerns. I can then speak after they give their concerns. I also need to improve on the skill of speaking in telephone conversations. This entails being polite and showing concern to clients that call to inquire about something concerning the organization. Effective presentation This is a sector in the organization that involves giving speech or information to a group of people concerning a given topic of discussion. Skills that I need to work on here are presentation skills. This includes generating ideas to the people and presenting them in away that they can clearly understand them. I also need to develop on speaking and communication skills so that the presentation can be a two way thing and not vice versa. Developing those skills means that both parties will benefit from the presentation and that it will also be interesting enough to capture their attention, unlike if it becomes boring for the audience. Internet and web This part of the organization requires the skill of critique and reflection of personal practice. This skill will assist me personally so that I can reflect on the practice in a reasonable manner. It creates criticism about an individual’s work so that I can realize where am ineffective in my work and improve on it2. For instance, reflecting on my computer skills in regard to the internet and the web or reflecting on how I use the internet for the benefit of the organization. This helps me to realize my failures and work towards improving the criticisms. Possible constrains to developing the skills There are many challenges that may hinder me from developing my skills as explained in above. I shall look at these challenges and constrains that may hinder me from achieving the objective of improving on the skills above. The constraints could be in different categories depending on the cause of the challenge that it poses. The first constrain is the financial constrain. Developing professional skills require that we pay so that we learn more. It means that I have to spend money so that I can get training on the skills that I aim at improving3. This poses as a challenge because sometimes getting money for the training is a challenge hence; developing the skills becomes impossible. It is also expensive sometimes to pay for the training course which means that it becomes difficult to develop the skills. Another constrain could be policies or rules in the organization regarding development. There are some policies in the organization that do not encourage development of employees. They do not give employees the chance to develop themselves both personally and professionally. This may hinder me because I do not get the opportunity to implement or put into practice the new skills that I acquire. Improvement or developments of some skills require experience that we acquire from working in the organization. Some policies in the organization also do not allow for relevant experiences to improve on some skills. Another challenge for developing skills in the work place is lack of time. Time is needed to train for new skills which mean that I have to get time off work to train. This is a challenge because organizations do not always allow for leaves and offs for employees to train4. Some organizations do not pay me for the time that I take the leave for further studies. It is also difficult to get the time off because of the busy schedule and many duties in the organization. This is a challenge because time is not enough for training and going for further studies so as to develop my skills. Ignorance towards development of skills is another hindrance to acquiring and developing skills. This is because people do not find the necessity of developing their skills in their profession. Ignorance towards developing personal skills is also a challenge. People do not find it worth developing their skills because they do know the benefits of doing so. Employees do not know the importance or benefits of developing their personal and professional skills because they view it as a benefit to the organization and not to them individually. This is a challenge because they will not show any efforts for improving their skills. Strategies to overcome the constraints There is a need to come up with strategies that will help solve the problems and constraints of developing personal and professional skills. There are many strategies to apply to solve this problem so that we encourage employees to develop their skills so that they improve on the quality of their work. The following are some of the strategies. Development of a strategy that encourages leadership in the organization is a good solution for the constraints above. This means that the organization comes up with its own policies that will encourage leadership for the employees5. These policies will encourage employees to develop the quality of work that they give sop that they get leadership posts in the organization. They can only improve their quality of work by developing both personal and professional skills. This policy will, therefore, encourage employees to seek development of their skills so that they get leadership in the organization. Another strategy would be offering training services to employees in the organization. The organization can offer the training free of charge for the employees or offer them at a reduced cost. This will mean that there will be a reduction in the cost of developing skills for the employees. It encourages employees to train because they do not have to spend a lot of monies to cater for the training courses so that they develop their skills. Employees should also get training about the benefits of improving their professional and personal skills. This is so as to equip them with such knowledge and create awareness of the importance of doing so6. This will help remove the mentality that it is only the organization that will benefit from the development of employee skills. Therefore, it is also the initiative of organizations to ensure that employees improve on their personal and professional skills. Organizations should also play a role of encouraging employees to develop on their skills. It is also important that employees develop their skills by going for training and changing their mentality on the benefits of developing skills.
