My preferential management style incorporates several elements, but I pay keen interest on three, which I believe are essential in fostering healthy organizational culture and creating an effective manager: service commitment, self-assessment, and flexibility. A good manager will, therefore, thrive on feedback from employees and focus mainly on implementing the strategy (LI and Wang. p.1).
As a manager and employee, I wish to work in an organization where I can witness these three key factors in motion. I would hope for my direct supervisor to apply the Open Systems management model, and I would like to use this system as a manager as well. For instance, a good manager encourages the employees to contribute to and attend professional conferences. That way, they can contribute to new ideas that may be implemented if it is in line with the organization’s mission.
In an organization where these three principals are operating, the organization culture would need to have some characteristics. To start with, the management hierarchy should be autonomous invested and flat. Most decisions would not require top management. A central person would be in charge or interdepartmental coordination, but the most authority would be invested on department heads responsible for initiative implementation. Even though there will be some relative organization decentralization, a concrete formal network would well-integrated departments. Such an ad hoc network would encourage interdepartmental communication during new idea implementation and provide multiple viewpoints during the assessment of the effectiveness of current and new practices.
By incorporating rigorous practice to receptiveness to change, the organization will place itself in excellent service for its patrons. Leaders and managers who readily take in new ideas and strategies from the outside environment and synchronize them with the organization’s mission often perform better. I believe that any organization acting upon the above outlined three principles will be well prepared to face the challenges of the ever-changing world.
