How Did Civil Authority Shift to Military Control in Japan - Essay Example

Early in Japan’s history, the society was controlled by a powerful class comprising the elite population of Japan. The most powerful regime emerged during the reign of the kingly family of Yamato. This regime was at its height of power during the third century A.D. They achieved this power by claiming that they are the descendant of gods, who made the land of Japan. Shaped by Chinese political and social institution, an imperial court and Government was established. The powerful court families started affecting hereditary regency by establishing control over the emperor.

During the eighth and twelfth centuries, a highly developed culture was attained but it was followed by a long period of civil war and anarchy. This lead to the development of a feudal society in military overloads started controlling the state on behalf of the emperor and his court and the regent. Henceforth, in the history of Japan through the Yamato court continued to reign, a practice of dynastic military regime was carried forth to rule the decentralized country. However, in the latter half of sixteenth-century Japan started the process of reunification which was followed by an era of great stability but the contact with the outside world was strictly restricted by the government.
