COMMUNICATION SKILLS Name: Course Instructor’s name Institution Date COMMUNICATION SKILLS Introduction Communication is essential in our lives with everything around us seemingly depending on it. Communication, in this case, can be claimed to have three main roles, which include; conveying of information, receiving some feedback and creating awareness or understanding of an issue. On the other hand, communication requires various factors to be met in order for it to be effective this includes a media and language for communication. Communication is ideal in the lives of human beings since it is related to entirely everything on how human beings interrelate. This shows the huge role communication plays in our lives. Hustle Relating theories to communication challenges within a chosen career Emotional intelligence (EQ) is the ability of an individual to identify, understand, use, and manage their emotions in positive ways in order for them to relieve stress and ensure effective communication (Schulz 2010). Emotional intelligence will also help in overcoming communication challenges therefore effectively defusing conflict. Emotional intelligence also helps one to understand the emotional experiences which other are going through this influence their formal thinking helping them connect perfectly with others (Wall 2007). Emotional Intelligence is beneficial since it will foster social effectiveness in communication this will therefore boost interrelationship with others. Emotion intelligence is also beneficial since it will give an understanding of both emotional and logical decision therefore ensuring that the decision making process is carried out much faster (Yang 2015). Emotion intelligence is also beneficial since, despite it being an inborn aspect it can also be learnt in line with this it transcends in all industries and is a critical attribute of architecture. On the other hand there are some drawbacks of this theory since it can be used to manipulate people due to its direct connection with the human emotions. Secondly too much dependence of Emotion Intelligence can lead to decreased critical thinking since logical thinking in this case is replaced by emotional thinking (Schulz 2010).     The Transactional Analysis theory was first developed in the 1950s by Dr. Eric Berne. Despite of the Transactional Analysis theory improving communication it is also it also fosters social psychology. The theory focuses on the relationship created while two or more parties are communicating. This theory is also built on the basis of the philosophy that people do change in order to fit in and be accepted (Matthews, Zeidner and Roberts 2012). The theory also stipulates that during communication the ego state of different parties can be altered. It also fosters relationships by steering cooperative interactions. In architecture, my chosen career the emotional intelligence and Transactional Analysis theory are influential aspects which play a huge role in this career.  Implementation of intelligence and Transactional Analysis in architecture faces a lot of challenges since these are commonly disregarded theories (Schulz 2010). This is due to the fact that in news reporting research and research findings play a lesser role in the implementation of the Transactional Analysis and emotional intelligence skill. Architecture like any other career requires an informative channel; however, this is often used in creation of a buzz around a reported issue. This is meant to get more people talking about an issue in order to create its popularity.  Embracing emotional intelligence and Transactional Analysis theories, something that is commonly disregarded in this career, will therefore, help in dealing perfectly with negative feedback or criticism. Examining course activities and personal experiences in aiding development of communication skills In the group discussion course activity there is the likelihood of differing in both thoughts and opinions, where some individuals within the group can offer positive feedback whereas other offer negative feedback. Emotional intelligence in this case helped me to appreciate the response of my career choice architectural advertising whether they were positive or negative. In this case, some people can get out of and hand and offer negative criticism to the career choice which might impact negatively on a person (Matthews, Zeidner and Roberts 2012). Emotional Intelligence, in this case, helped me to be calm and assertive when I got such a response. Emotional intelligence also helped me to get the courage to continue with my architectural advertising career choice in this paper despite getting negative feedback or criticism concerning my choice of career to expound on. By adoption the Transactional Analysis theory in my architectural advertisement career choice in this course I was able to learn the relation of this theory in fostering powerful career in architectural advertisement. This, therefore, improved my understanding capacity of this course making it more relatable. Transactional Analysis theory also had a great influence on my group member’s behavioral change; therefore, meaning that through this career choice I was able to change the group member’s wrong perception towards my choice in a career in architectural advertising. In this case I created decision filters where I structured the importance of the choice in focusing in a career in architectural advertisement. Through this strategy I used neuro-linguistic programming convincing my group members on this particular career choice where I used formal; slang or a mixture of both languages while explaining to my group members. This was effective in boosting my confidence in this career choice which enabled me perfectly creates my paper based on it. On the other hand; adoption of these theories has also made my work less labor effective. This has also prepared me to have an open mind in anticipation of the final paper results from both my group members and tutor. For instance; in my presentation for dummy service advertising campaign which helped me gain firsthand experience on what this career was all about I received some negative feedback after making the advertisement to my class members, friends and relatives. However, this did not deter me from turning around this advertisement into a success. I carried out an in-depth research on the feedback of the advertisement and noted that there was limited information on architectural services in the advertisement. Through embracing the transactional theory I was able to underpin the concept of improving communication by providing background information of the architectural services offered for the audience understanding. I now have an open mind on the mixed reaction by my public on an architectural service advertisement (Musa et al. 2015). However with further adoption of these theories in the future, there is a guarantee that my advertisement will be more effective with time. Emotional intelligence also impacted on my psychological view on the negativity received from the public on the dummy architectural service advertisement presentation concerning my architectural service. In this case emotion intelligence helped be balance between emotional thinking and logical thinking where I used the negative statement from my audience to make some changes in my dummy advertising campaign. This helped as develop the thick skin that allowed me to absorb the response I received from the public concerning my architectural service advertising campaign. In this case I was able not to focus on my weaknesses rather accept them and concentrate on improving them. I looked back at the causes of my failed architectural service advertising campaign with an open mind without being too hard on myself. I would therefore note the weak points in the advertisement and improve on them. The earlier experiences of the negative responses received from the public were able to mold me; I developed a stronger personality which ensured that I still had the energy to persevere even after receiving this criticism from my public concerning my architectural service advertising campaign. Relationship management a skill fostered by emotional intelligence also helps me foster a good relationship with my public despite their response towards my advertising (Schulz 2010). This ensured that the public had a good perception of my architectural services where I used their constructive comments to make the suggested improvement concerning my architectural service advertising campaign. In this case, I was able to embrace friendliness towards my public despite their response to my advertisements. On the other hand, I took up the Transactional Analysis theory in my dummy advertising  campaign through this I was able to instill information appraisal where I created provocative entertainment through creating target capturing advertisements. This eventually led to effective architectural advertising since the advertisement gets to capture the attention of the targeted individual or group. Transactional Analysis theory also helped my dummy architectural service advertising campaign to embrace the uses of different modes of advertisement. Since the theory greatly influenced provocative entertainment, this meant that used various mode of communication in order to stir a buzz on my architectural services. Using different modes of communication ensured that the architectural services advertisement reached more people and is more effective. In this case I evidently noted that the appeal of my advertisement greatly increased. The advertisement boosted the growth of the product and service market which were being featured in the adverts. For instance in my previous dummy advertisement of architectural consultation service launch I noted that the service was greatly accepted in the market receiving huge potential figure in sales. Transactional Analysis theory, in this case, helped my advertising to diversify by embracing the persuasive advertisement (Matthews, Zeidner and Roberts 2012).   Detailing actions you will take to implement improvements within areas you need to develop your communication skills An improvement of these two weaknesses has to be carried out in a careful manner in order to ensure that it is impactful. In improving the communication strength, I will take up a performance evaluation in architectural communication target study and analysis which will help me to be able to distinguish the impact of my communication that I intend to pass through. This will enable me to know the effective means of delivering this communication through choosing the best- fit channel. This will also ensure that I do not overload the audience with information. I will, therefore, come up with a direct and understandable communication for their advertisements (Schulz 2010). Development of empathy skills through improving my situation and personal awareness skills will also enable me to improve on this notable weakness in my communication skills. In this case empathy will enable me to relate with other individuals giving me the ability to see things in the others parties perspective. I would take up this approach in order to develop this skill therefore highly viewing feedback and addressing them. This will enable me to see an issue as another party sees it. On the other hand this will enable me not to be judgmental in my thinking or biased helping me relate with other perfectly while holding conversation (Yang, P 2015). Empathy will also help me keep my emotions in check during communication this will help me avoid confusion in communication which might be caused by my emotional change. Some of the two notable communication weaknesses that were evident in my career path are; a slow pace in communication and ineffective listening during communication.  Pace in communication in the persuasive industry like my career architectural advertisement is extremely essential. Due to the different channels used in architectural advertisement, it is critical for pace in communication to be enhanced because of the required multiple connections with different audience (Wall 2007). Pace in communication, in this case, entails active listening which in a career in architecture means effectively listening to the public’s feedback and acting on those responses.  To improve on this weakness  I will take up more communication enhancing channels like using of social media and other advertising platforms in order to ensure that communication between my audience and I is steered smoothly; this will improve on my communication pace weaknesses. I will measure the impact of these improvement measures by using the regression analysis and shapely values to determine the impacts of these improvements to my campaign awareness and impact on various key metrics such as purchase intent and brand awareness. Effective listening during communication is the other communication weakness noted in my career path in architecture. As noted in my advertising career my communication errors result from ignorance of an essential aspect relating to communication (Yang, P 2015). I will therefore improve on this weakness by crafting information for the purpose of impacting on an intended audience. I will also ensure that this information shared is the intended information and it serves the right purpose.  I will also take up measurable actions to review these implemented improvements. This will entail using a campaign optimizer to review advertisement from other industry leaders as I try to curve out a similar advertisement focusing on these small but crucial factors that foster effective communication. This will enable me focus on foresight in my effective listening weakness. I will advance my feedback response studies and analysis. This will help in instigating good relationship with my audience therefore in the long end the advertisement is successful. On the other hand, I will also ensure that my architectural service advertisement is understood through analyzing the feedback. My ability to perfectly analyse the feedback will ensure that I can respond to it perfectly (Musa et al. 2015). On the other hand I will also measure my progress in implementing this progress through carrying out a survey where I would inquire on my audience concerning my progress on this improvement in communication.
