Personal odes of Ethics – Essay Example
The paper "Personal Сodes of Ethics" is a perfect example of an essay on creative writing.
Personal codes of ethics are important parameters of moral and ethical values of an individual that define one’s behavior. It also forms the basis of mutual interaction amongst people within a society. I have egalitarian values and therefore, my personal code of ethics can be summarized as below:
1. To be honest, fair and have high integrity
These are very important values for me as they inculcate strong sense of accountability and responsible behavior.
2. Do not harm others in any way
I strongly believe in Kantian philosophy of treating others as I would like to be treated (Kant, 2004). Hence, I would ensure through my actions, thoughts and verbal commitment that no harm is done to other living organism including human-beings, animals and environment.
3. To respect others and their diverse ideologies
We are living in a globalized society that encompasses people coming from diverse background of culture, color, nations and religion. Hence, it is important to develop cross-cultural understanding and develop mutual respect for peaceful co-existence (Ciulla, Martin & Soloman, 2007).
3. To be socially conscious and contribute to the development of community and environment.
I would like to be proactive participants in the development processes and contribute to community development. I would also ensure and advocate proper waste management and fuel consumption, promote sustainable practices like carbon footprint, judicious use of natural resource and encourage their conservation.
If I were a journalist, my personal code of ethics may sometimes place me at odds with employer’s needs because of my honesty, integrity and high sense of accountability. The cut-throat competition in media has made it highly vulnerable to short-term goals of success. They tend to exaggerate trivial matters or invade personal space of others for vested interest to gain attention. These would be against my personal code of ethics and therefore could pose serious conflicts with the employer.
