Decisions consist in introducing, for example, regulations prohibiting smoking in public places (thus reducing people’s right to choose whether to endanger their health by smoking) or prohibiting selling or using drugs (thus again prohibiting people’s right to endanger their health). From this perspective, bad products can also be viewed as a subject to elimination from the market as being dangerous for the health of the nation.

But, returning to the first perspective, it can be said that many of the things that are bad for health are very popular among people (as it was, for example, with smoking in some periods). Individuals often choose to buy what they like and enjoy, instead of what is good for them. Therefore, in my opinion, such behavior is just each person’s choice, and, consequently, the company manufacturing the product cannot carry any responsibility for how, why, and with what results the person uses the product. The only thing I’d say a company should be responsible for is providing a potential client with all (!) the information regarding the product – both positive and negative. Moreover, this exact responsibility I would be happy to see supported by legislation for the citizens to be aware of what their choice may lead to. Such a solution, I believe, would both ensure people are aware of all the dangers of a specific product, free businesses from being responsible for people’s levity and provide people with adequate criteria to base the choice upon.
