Extract of sample "Building Orion Spaceship"

Orion is to be used in exploring the asteroids and Mars. The spacecraft was developed as a reaction to the accident of Space Shuttle Columbia. Therefore, it will act as Vision for Space Exploration.

The design and technology used make Orion more advanced. However, it borrows its design from Apollo Command Module. One of the few specifics that make it better than the previous spacecraft is the fact that the life support, propulsion, and thermal protection systems can be upgraded any time a new technology comes up. Therefore, it leaves space for improvement (NASA 1). This has allowed NASA to look for new technology to improve the current systems.

In the future, the spacecraft is expected to launch a heavy-lift rocket which is known as Space Launch System. This will be one of the most powerful rockets to be built by NASA (NASA 1). This will have the ability to send human beings to new destinations. However, this will not happen until 2021.
