Name: Tutor: Course: Date: Motto adopted from life experience Introduction There are many things that happen in life that shape who were are. Anything happens for a reason and as they say, “what does not kill you, makes you stronger”, I am stronger and wiser having carefully analyzed various events that have occurred in my life. I came to realize that time is precious and I have adopted this slogan is my life motto. Time waits for no one and whoever does not make good use of time ends up regretting in future. I lost my position as an intern in a company and I ended up regretting that I did not spent my time learning everything that I had to learn in order to get a good credits from my supervisors. I lost my dear cousin and I always thought I did not value the time we had together when he was still alive. I have witnessed a couple that seems so happy be embroiled in a nasty divorce and I realize things are not what they seem to appear in the public eye. All in all I have concluded that time is precious and change is evitable. Despite everything life has to go one. This essay discusses the three life events that made me adopt a motto and further explores such events that happened internationally to celebrities and what it meant for them. It is important to make good use of something while it lasts. Change that happened which supports the motto adopted Three events that happened in my life that supports my motto is the death my cousin, a nasty divorce of a couple in the neighborhood and being laid off in a company as an intern. The global financial crisis had many companies restructuring in order to continue in operation and keep their expenses down. There was a recession and the economic bubble that had stated in the United States real estate quickly spread to other parts of the world adversely affected the banking industry. The financial crisis is considered the worst economic disaster since the Great Depression that occurred in 1929 (Shiller, 2011). Housing prices fell by a margin of 31.8% more as compared to the Great Depression. The efforts by the Treasury Department and Federal Reserve did not prevent the entire banking system from collapsing. There was great recession all over (Claessens, 2010). It is during this time that a company that I was working for as an internet folded up its business and I was left jobless. I regretted all the missed chances I had to get a good recommendation before the collapse. Things had seemed so perfect that I did not see the need to hurry and work to impress my supervisors. When the company was pushed out of business, I realized that I had missed an opportunity to make my CV better and impress my future employers. I did not get a recommendation from the company. Secondly, I learnt great lessons with the passing on of my dear cousin whom were very close. Out closeness made me to take for granted what we had together and sometimes I saw it a bother when I had to accompany him to carry out some errands. Events in life are unpredictable and I lost my cousin in the most mysterious circumstances. The moment the news reached me that my cousin had been found in an alley in the suburbs, I was dumbfounded and blamed myself for not being the best cousin to him as I ought to be. All of a sudden I realized that we had not spent a lot of time together and there were things in our lives that we had not resolved. It all boils down to the fact that time is precious and change is inevitable. Things may be okay one minute and the next minute they change for the worst. I learnt to make the best out time. There was a certain couple in our neighborhood whom I admired a lot for the way they demonstrated love in the open. They seemed to be so caring and compassionate. I vowed to treat women right and try to be the best man even by drawing from the example of this couple. It was like really shocker to me to learn that the wife had filed for a divorce since she caught the husband red-handed cheating on her. It is this time that I realize that appearance is not reality. Things may not be what they seem to appear. The underlying truth may be very far away from the picture on the ground. Nothing is constant and things are about to change. International examples of experiences or events of famous people or celebrates Singer and songwriter Missy Elliot was devastated following the untimely death of Aaliyah in a plane crash. Aaliyah helped Missy Elliott to become a star in the American crowded music industry. Friends recalled Aaliyah as intelligent, driven and specific on the rewards of hard work (Toure, 2001). She was a gentle and sweet spirit who usually found time to play. Her shyness was beautiful since it emanated from humility. She had a contagious personality that thrilled many people. It was always fun working with her. She never let stardom interfere with values that she held so dear to her. Missy Elliott remembers that Aaliyah was nicknamed Baby girl and Li-Li. She loved to make prank phone calls, to sleep, to shop at Fred Segal in Los Angeles, to play word games and ate breakfast food even in the afternoon. She was compassionate and caring (Toure, 2001). R and B star Missy Elliott was devastated by the news of Aaliyah perishing in a plane crush. Aaliyah has played an important role making Missy Elliott to be who she is in the American music industry. Missy Elliott felt that she had lost more than a sister. Like in my place, Missy Elliott felt that Aaliyah had gone too soon and there were many more happy moments that they needed to be together. Death is cruel and had stolen Missy Elliott’s best friend when she needed her the most (Toure, 2001). Aaliyah had helped Miss Elliot and Timberland to launch their careers in the music industry in America. The only male child of Bill Cosby, Ennis William Cosby, was shot dead in Los Angeles freeway ramp in what was termed as an attempted robbery while the victim changed a flat tire. He is one of the 5 children of a popular television father of 1980s and best-selling author whose comedy draw largely on fatherhood frustrations (Ellis, 2011). Ennis was a graduate student of Columbia University and had gone to visit his friends in Los Angeles. Another motorist discovered the body of the slain Ennis and tire-changing equipment laying around. Ennis, 27, was shot in the head and laid in a pool of blood on the passenger side. The door of the car was left ajar. His father was devastated after learning about the death of his only son. The man who was arrested for Ennis murder confessed and withdrew all the appeals (Ellis, 2011). Mikhail Markhasev, the murderer, apologized to the Cosby family for murdering their son in an attempted robbery. The killer was a Ukrainian migrant. The abrupt and unexpected loss of life brings pain to the family and makes them realize that they have lost someone whom they will never see again (Ellis, 2011). The realization is that change is a must and time is precious becomes a reality in such as situation. The death of Cosby’s eldest son shows how death is abrupt and not anticipated. Family members are left with so many unanswered questions. The news about Janet Jackson leaving her husband after fulfilling the requirements of nuptial signed before the marriage came as a real shocker to me. It portrayed Janet as someone who was looking forward to leaving the husbands after a period of time. This made me to remember the couple in the neighborhood. Explanation how this changed me All this events have shaped how I see love and how I treat that I love. I have realized that time is very precious. Change is inevitable and certainty is never present in many things. One has to live life fully aware that he is not guaranteed tomorrow. Losing someone close to me has taught me to make the best out of every moment. Nothing lasts forever and it is important to always treasure the good moments in life while they last because you do not know about tomorrow. I have learnt to value what I have and exploit opportunities because we are never guaranteed tomorrow. I cannot be sure of anything until I have it at the moment. Working hard is not an option but a requirement towards making life better. Tragedies happen for a reason and sometimes they make use stronger and able to confront other difficult situations if our lives. In every situation I learnt to treasure what I have and treat people with respect and love in order to win their trust. Change is inevitable but time is precious and waits for no man. I have become more conscious and to treat things that I do not know at face value unless I am proved wrong. Conclusion My life motto emanates from what I have witnessed and what I have experienced over time. All in all I have concluded that time is precious and change inevitable. Being prepared for change makes one to anticipate anything in the course of his life. I have learnt to be ready for change and expect any outcome despite thorough preparedness. The death of my dear cousin has made me to treasure those that I love and spend more time with them whenever I have an opportunity. References Toure, “Aaliyah: 1979-2001”, Rolling Stone, 2001.
