The Log Book ID: RESEARCH PROJECT: SACHET PACKAGING INTRODUCTION: The following are the chronological activities that occurred during the research on the project. In this log book, all the breakdowns of the project tasks and the time plan for the project are chronologically and precisely identified. Week 1 During the first week, the following events occurred: The first step was the selection of the project. After thorough review of the two projects presented, I decided to pick on the first project dealing with packaged product. After the selection of the project to tackle, the next step was to find out the right product with the packaging that would form part of the research project. Another thorough and extensive research enabled me to identify the use of sachets as packaging materials. However, the biggest challenge in this step was to select a particular or specific product that is packed in sachets. In this respect, I decided to generalize on the food products that are packed in sachets. It is important to note that Week 1’s activities were fundamental for the successful completion of the project given the fact that it was to provide the right direction and framework. Week 2 In week 2, I was involved in writing down the outline of the paper, which entailed the following aspects: Introduction Reason for the use of sachet packaging Method for manufacturing Method of assembling sachet The materials used in sachet packaging Properties of the sachet packaging material The design of the sachet packaging Environmental impacts of the sachet packaging during manufacture Environmental impacts of the sachet packaging during use Environmental impacts of the sachet packaging use and at end-of-life The economics associated with the use of the sachet packaging Conclusion and recommendations List of References Drafting the outline of the paper was very fundamental in providing me with the right direction to follow especially during the process of developing the rough draft and final draft of the research report. Drafting of the outline was done with the help from different personnel, which included my colleagues who were also involved in writing their own reports. I also consulted widely from various sources containing such reports. Week 3 In the second week, the tasks or activities were purely on identifying the right articles and books to use that provide a discussion on sachets as a way of packing products. It is always important to identify the right books and journal articles discussing a given topic in order to ensure that all the points and analysis are right and appropriate. In identifying the right articles and books, I used different engines such as the Google, Google Scholar, Proquest, Emerald, and other normal articles. I must admit that finding the articles was quite challenging given the fact that the project had identified the use of sachets. Even though sachets have been used for a long time, majority of researchers have not taken keen interest on the same. Indeed, the activity of article and book searching proved to be fruitful in the following weeks. Week 4 Week 3 the activities and events were seriously challenging, tiresome, but very fundamental to the development of the research project. Various events or activities took place in week 3. The events or activities included the following: I developed or drafted the introduction to provide a general description of the topic as well as the main areas or aspects of the project. In addition, I ensure that my introduction provided an overview of what the research project was all about. The second activity was to identify the various reasons for the use of sachet packaging especially within the food industry. These reasons were identified from the already identified articles and journals. From the articles and books, I also identified the method or techniques for manufacturing products that are packed in sachets as well as the sachet packaging as a whole. This was to provide a comprehensive analysis of the packaging system. Week 4 Having created a foundation in weeks 1, 2, and 3, week 4 involved a further stretch or creation of the report. Amongst the activities done in week 4 included the following: I identified and drafted the various methods of assembling sachet After identifying the methods of assembling the sachets, I used the articles to identify the materials that are used in sachet packaging The last activity for week 3 involved identification of the properties of the sachet packaging material Week 5 Week 4 was not enough to conduct all the activities and events entailing to the project. As a result, the remaining portion of the research project was done in week 5 and 6. The activities or events in week 5 included the following: The first activity in week 4 was to identify various designs of the sachet packaging with respect to the food industry. The week also involved using the articles and books to identify various environmental impacts of the sachet packaging during manufacture. It is important to understand the environmental impacts of a given business concepts especially in respect to creation or development of policies. Week 6 While continuing with developing the report, the following activities were done in week 6: Identification of various environmental impacts of the sachet packaging during use. Whereas the previous activity identified the impacts during manufacture, this activity identified the impacts during use. In this activity, it was clear to me that sachets have serious environmental impacts during use. I then focused on identifying the environmental impacts of the sachet packaging use and at end-of-life. The succeeding activities identified environmental impacts during manufacturing and use while this was aimed at identifying environmental impacts both after use and at the end-of-life. Week 6 Further research was done in week 6. Week 6 involved the following activities towards the development of the project The week involved the identification of the economics associated with the use of the sachet packaging In this week I was able to identify the main points within the activities hence develop some recommendations. Week 7 This was the last week of doing more research and coming up with the rough draft of the project. It involved compiling all the works of weeks 1 to 6 and developing a rough draft. Week 8-9 Week 8 involved proof reading through the whole report in order to identify possible mistakes and make additional items where necessary. The mistakes were identified and a copy of the fine rough draft was given to my colleagues to also go through whilst identifying possible mistakes. The colleagues assisted me in identifying various mistakes especially grammatical, spelling, or otherwise in order to help come up with a good report. Week 10-11 After the identification of the mistakes corrections were made adequately to the report. The corrections were made within the rough draft thus making it dirty and untidy. Week 12 Week 10 involved writing the rough draft afresh with all the required corrections. After which, a final draft was developed. Week 13 I submitted my report to the tutor for further marking and guidance Throughout the process of developing the research project, I gained a lot of experience and skills other than knowledge in respect to packaging. One of the experiences I attained throughout the process was identification of the right articles or books to use in order to develop a good paper. In addition, I developed the skill of writing precise and comprehensive project paper. Indeed, this was a learning moment that I can never forget. Read More
