The paper "The Conflict in the Middle Eastern Region" is a great example of a dissertation on military issues. Both primary and secondary empirical research was adopted by the researcher for the methodology. It was included in the analysis of the case study as well as on the Literature review with the purpose of providing a better understanding of the historical and contemporary relationship shared by Iran and the KSA. The methodology was instrumental in enabling the researcher to make conclusions regarding the implications of the relationship between the Islamic Republic and Saudi Arabia in the Gulf region.
The research theory, according to Taveallaei and Talib (2010) can have different definitions depending on the field of study and the research period of the case in question. A neorealist approach was used for the analysis of this dissertation. The importance of neorealism, in this instance, cannot be stressed enough as there is much needed in-depth knowledge regarding the relationship between the two Middle Eastern Nations which is mostly characterized by supremacy battles and ideological rivalries. The neorealist approach is especially useful in this study because of the need to understand the cause of the conflict between Iran and Saudi Arabia.
Sobh and Chad (2005) during their evaluation of the neorealism approach pointed out that neorealism avoids a negativist and positivist approach and explains the situation as it was happening at the ground level. On the other hand, Johnston and Stephen (2011) explained further that data interpretation using the neorealism approach focused majorly on data analysis of the mechanisms and structures that underlie the data. This can best be explained that neorealism does not only seek to focus on the status quo, but also on the reasons for the status quo. Neorealism further explains that the formation of social structures is largely dependent on social relationships.
Olsen (2009) supports this claim by stating that the basis of social structures is for powerful groups and individuals to exploit the less powerful groups or persons to achieve certain milestones. Therefore, the neorealist approach was appropriate for analyzing this relationship as the analysis involved socio-political factors such as influence, security, and rivalry. As it has been proven in the past, the neorealist approach is an effective means of investigating the cause of social problems as it also challenges science to disaggregate and show the basis of social structure.
Taveallaei and Talib (2010) agree that neorealism is an integral part of the research theory and has thus been adopted extensively in the pursuit of knowledge. Dieleman, Wong, and Marchal (2012) conquer that neorealism is best used to explain the phenomenon through evaluation and synthesis and in this regard, the dissertation adopted the neorealist approach in its data analysis. For strong literature underpinning several sources had to be scanned and a critical analysis conducted to validate the arguments presented in these sources.
The dissertation was concluded with highlighting the several factors that have affected the Saudi-Iran relationship concerning understanding the historical exchanges between both nations as well as the impact of their relationship to the current Middle East situation. The resource database, as a result, consisted of online sources as they were the best source of current information on the case study (Gause 2013). The most recent data regarding this relationship was vital in making the relevant conclusions; hence online resources were invaluable to this case study.
