It would seem that American-made automobiles are more popular abroad than in their own country. In particular, General Motors are is* expected to sell more automobiles in China than in America in the near future, their sales over the past year separated only by a narrow margin – which is saying something, considering how far apart their sales were a few years back. And according to Tim Lee, GM’s president of international operations, that day is fast approaching. Specifically, he notes how well their company sold in China last year: 1.

83 million cars and trucks, only a little less than 200,000 compared to 2.07 million in the US.  It should also be noted that in China, GM is currently in the lead, with 13.4% in market shares and counting – in 2008, it had 11.3%. Meanwhile, in the US, the opposite is occurring, occurring**; the company has been experiencing decay over the past few decades, ending with 19.9% as of 2009. While its largest market is still in its own country, General Motors generally (no pun intended) experience experiences*** greater international than domestic sales.

In fact, even if sales rebound this year, the Chinese market would still be more dynamic and profitable to cater to in the long run. Its high economic growth coupled with a rapidly expanding road network means that more and more people are looking for cars to drive. Adding this to the fact that China has a greater population than America only drives the point home that the Chinese market is where the profit is.  *should be ‘is’  **run-on sentence; should be a semicolon between ‘occurring’ and ‘the’  ***should be ‘experiences’ (‘General Motors’ is considered singular)
