The headquarters of BP America’s is located in One Westlake Park, Texas. The company is listed as one of the biggest private sectors of energy corporations in the globe and among the six ‘supermajors’ (this is a vertically integrated private sector that deals with natural gas, oil exploration, and petroleum merchandise marketing companies). BP is listed on the New York Stock Exchange and the London Stock Exchange and is a contribution of the FTSE 100 Index.Since its commencement, BP has undergone a lot of organizational behavior, which this paper will discuss.

Some of the organizational behaviors are diversification, expansion, privatization, merger, and many more. On April 20, 2010, BP had bad havoc that had ever occurred in the history of the United State of America; there was an explosion of the Deepwater Horizon that led eleven people dead, and an oil spill that contaminated a wide area of the US marine environment and prolongs to have a severe impact on the fishing industry, wildlife, and regional tourism. This catastrophe occurred in the Gulf of Mexico, and up to now, the mess hasn’t been completely cleared.

The roots of BP kicked off in May 1901, when William Knox D’ Arcy was given a permit by Shah of Iran to look for oil, which he later discovered in May 1908. The Anglo-Persian Oil Company (APOC) was merged with Burmah Oil Company on 14 April 1909 to exploit this discovery. In 1935, it developed into the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company (AIOC). After the Second World War, the Iranian government and AIOC primarily resisted the pressure of nationalists to amend AIOC’s dispensation terms because of Iran’s favor.

However, in March 1951, Ali Razmara who was the pro-western Prime Minister was assassinated, and as a result, the parliament of Iran elected Mohammed Mossadeq who was a nationalist, as the prime minister. In the following month, (April 1951) the Iran parliament (called majlis), nationalized the oil industry by colossal vote. Consequently, the Nation Iranian Oil Company was established, displacing the AIOC. The British government challenged the nationalization at The Hague (International Court of Justice), but its objection was dismissed.

Moreover, The British government went ahead together with US Central Intelligence Agency, by overthrowing the Mohammed Mossadeq government. In 1954, Anglo-Iranian Oil has renamed British Petroleum and recommenced oil production in Iran. In 1959, the company had already expanded up to the Middle East to Alaska, and by 1965 it became the foremost company to smack oil in the North Sea. The company continued with its daily operations up to 1979, when the Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini regime removed the assets of BP in Iran.
