Operating Systems Windows 7 Name Institution Date Executive Summary Windows 7 plays a significant role in enhancing the experience of the users. This is because it supports a host of features that are required for the operations of the system. The system is able to support various hardware and software. Windows 7 enables the user to easily utilize the features found in vista. On the other hand, the management of the secondary memory is vital in terms of ensuring proper storage of data. Windows 7 supports the use of various secondary memory appliances. Files management is also an aspect that the user is able to access the data as well as ensuring that easily access it. The management of the network is yet another concept that is well taken care of by the operating system. It enables the user to operate the network smoothly. The operations of the network are enhanced through the use of windows 7. Security features are also useful in the operation of computers due to the existing threats. Windows 7 has a wide range of features that are essential for the purpose of protecting the system from malware. Windows 7 is thus efficient in terms of enabling the easy use of the system by the users. Introduction Microsoft is the key of the operations of all computers in the world. It is through Microsoft that the computers can be operated and hence its benefit the users. Microsoft windows has ensured that people are able to operate computers with much ease. It has features which enable the users to easily access some of the tools that are required for the daily operations of the computers. The versions of the windows have been changing over a period of time. The changes are aimed at ensuring that the demands of the customers are met. This revolution has seen the continuous changes of the windows operating systems (Warman, 2009). Windows 7 is one of the operating systems that were aimed at improving the efficiency of the computers. It is a popular version due to the adverse features that it has. It has played an important role in term of improving the experience of the users when operating the computers. It is therefore essential to note that the windows operating system has experienced a lot of changes and hence its ability to meet the requirements of the users. Windows 7 supports a variety of features that were not present before and thus, convenient to the customers. The paper critically discusses the issues of windows 7 in regard to its use and operations. Minimum Hardware Configuration for Windows 7 Most computers can be configured to use the windows 7 although the computers might have been using the earlier version of the windows. However, certain requirements are necessary for the purpose of upgrading the computers to use the windows 7. One of the most essential configurations for the hardware is the availability of the 64 bit processor. On the other hand, it is a requirement for the hardware to have at least 16 GB of available disk space in order for it to use the windows 7. It is worth noting that the 16 GB is not enough and hence the need for more disk space. It is for this reason that some of the hardware is not able to support windows 7. The direct X9 graphic processor is also a requirement for the windows 7 and it must be WDDM 1.0 drive. It also supports most of the later drives. It is thus evident that windows 7 require a lot of disk space. On the other hand, windows 7 cannot be accessed through some of the hardware that was available in the market (Ahmed, 2010). User Interaction and User Management The user interaction and management of the windows 7 in relation to vista is for the purpose of ensuring that the use of the program is made easy. In order to achieve this, the program has some features which enable the interactions with the user to be easy. This is through the use of the ribbon of command which makes the interaction process easy. The discovery of features is usually easy for the users through the use of this bar. This makes the learning process easy and hence creating more confidence in the user in terms of controlling the program. This feature is also important in terms of replacing the traditional menu and the tool bar. These features were available in the previous programs and were complicated in terms of interaction. However, the windows 7 vista has played an active role in terms of ensuring that the users can easily interact with the program. The fluent graphical user interface has been enhanced through the use of the command ribbon which is a feature of the windows 7. It is thus evident that the interaction and use of the windows 7 has been enhanced and hence increasing the efficiency of the program (Xue, et al, 2011). CPU management The management of the central processing unit plays a significant role in determining the life of the computer. The windows 7 provides the user with an interface that enables the user to configure and monitor the system. Windows 7 has features and management tools which are mainly referred to as snap ins. These features are responsible for the monitoring process of the computers. The Microsoft exchange server helps in the management of the computers and hence leading to the good performance of the central processing unit. On the other hand, the active directory is also an important feature that enables the central processing unit to be easily managed. This is because it limits the use of the computers to trusted sites which have safe. Some of the sites are not safe and hence leading to the breakdown of the central processing unit. However, the window 7 has useful features which are responsible for the proper management of the computers. The performance monitoring process of the system is also efficient and hence leading to the proper use of the computers. Windows 7 vista is thus efficient in terms of protecting the central processing unit (Gaskin, 2010). Primary memory management Windows 7 helps in keeping the tract of the location of the primary memory. This is for the purposes of managing the primary memory of the computer. It also plays an important role in determining whether the memory should be freed or allocated. It is also worth noting that the computer has several competing processes in terms of the memory. This is however, managed through the use of the windows 7 vista. During the process of management, it determines the amount of memory that should be allocated for certain programs. This ensures that the programs that require much memory are allocated the required amount. Freeing the memory is also vital in terms of ensuring the smooth operations of the computer. Through this concept, it is easy to use the compute for other services. Windows 7 therefore plays an important role in terms of freeing the memory of the computer once the system does not have adequate memory. Several techniques are used for the purpose of memory management. However, it is imperative to note that the partitioned memory allocation is the main technique that is utilized by windows 7. It enables the smooth operation of the computers through monitoring the rate of the memory use (Hou, et al, 2012). Input/output Management The management of the input and the output is for the purpose of enhancing the performance of the computer. This is achieved through ensuring that the devices in place are functioning properly. On the other hand, windows 7 support a number of input and out put devices used by the computer. The ability of the computer to support a number of devices plays an essential role in terms of ensuring that the system is able to satisfy the needs of the user. The windows 7 determine the number of devices that can be used by the computer in term of operations. Windows 7 supports the use of the input as well as the output devices at once. However, the number of devices that can be used at once is always limited by the computer. The output devices always take signals from the computer through the windows 7 features. This enables the computer to perform several operations that are required by the user. Windows 7 is responsible for managing the printers and other output devices that are used by the computer. The management of the signals by the computer in terms of the inputs and the outputs plays an important role in the operations of the computers (Ferrett, 2012). Secondary Memory Management The secondary memory mainly refers to the external components that are used for the purpose of storing the data. The external devices ensure that the computer has a back up in terms of the memory storage. The external devices may however, pose some risks to the system if they are not properly managed. Vista enables the computer to function properly through the use of the secondary memory. This is achieved by ensuring that the computer is able to use a wide range of secondary storage devices. It plays an important role in terms of determining the capacity of the memory that the computer can detect. The previous versions of windows had a limited amount of memory that the computer could sense and use when it comes to the secondary storage. However, through the use of windows 7, it is worth noting that the computers have become more efficient in terms of use and storage of data. The use of secondary memory is also enhanced by Vista through ensuring the control of the amount of data that may be sent or received. The use of windows7 is essential in terms of ensuring the proper use of the external storage devices by the computers (Goel, 2012). Files management The files management is for the purpose of ensuring that the files in the computer are easy to use and access. Windows 7 allows the users to group the files into directories and hence the easy management. The access of the files is the most significant aspect when dealing with the computer files. Windows 7 enables the easy access of the computer files by ensuring that they are grouped according to the alphabetic order. It is thus easy for the files to be accessed. On the other hand the widows 7 has a search feature that can be used when trying to access a certain file. Through the search, it is easy to find the exact location of the file. The cut, copy and paste commands are supported by windows 7. These commands are useful in terms of managing the files. This is because it enables the user to move the files to any location and hence the proper management of the files. The positions of the hierarchies of the file are also one of the main features that is supported by windows 7. This plays an central role in terms of ensuring that the user is able to easy use the computer. Windows 7 also supports a wide range of applications that are useful during the management of the files. This includes the UNIX, Linux and Dos. Network Management The network management mainly pertains to the operations and maintenance of a network system. The network operations management through the use of vista plays a vital role in terms of ensuring the smooth running of the network. Vista also plays a significant role in terms of positioning the network for the purpose of ensuring that the user is able to apply a wide range of use. The configuration, accounting, performance and security of the network are the key concepts that vista puts into account when managing the network. The management of the network is also important as it ensures that the user can easily obtain the data from the network. The windows management instrumentation ensures that the management of the network is enhanced. This is also supported by vista and hence playing an important role in terms of managing the network. It is possible to detect whether the network is down through the management mechanism of windows. On the other hand, it is worth noting that management of network plays an active role in terms of reducing the security threats that may harm the system. The threats are usually common in most of the shared networks and hence the need for management (Qureshi, 2010). Security The security features of windows 7 ensures that the computer is protected from threats. Malware, viruses and spyware are threats that lead to the damage of the computers. The threats are also responsible for the loss of information which could be vital to the users. The action center of windows 7 plays a significant role in terms of ensuring that the system is up to date and it also enables the computer to automatically update the anti-virus once it has been installed. This is for purpose of ensuring that the computer is safe from threats at all times. Locker drive encryption is also one of the security features that is supported by windows 7. It makes sure that the data of the computer is safely protected from hackers or unauthorized access. The windows 7 has a firewall that is responsible for protecting the computer from malicious programs that may lead to the damage of the computer. The threats to the computer are thus protected through the features that are found in the windows 7. It also supports the installation of different types of antivirus which are also useful in terms of protecting the computers (Ballew, 2010). Virtualization The virtualization process involves the modification of the system in order to enhance its performance. Windows 7 has undergone virtualization for the purpose of ensuring that it supports some of the vital applications in the information technology systems. On the other hand, it is important to note that virtualization ensures that there is compatibility of the system. However, the compatibility issues of windows 7 has led to some criticism due to its lack of compatibility with some of the programs. This has been costly to the users who have been forced to purchase other support tools in order to use the system. However, improvements have been made to the windows 7 and it has solved the problems associated with virtualization and compatibility (Jannini, 2011). Conclusion In conclusion, it is important to note that windows 7 plays a significant role in terms of ensuring that the needs of computer users are adequately met. The user interaction is essential for the operations of the windows 7. It is also evident that the interaction is for the purpose of ensuring that the experience of the users is enhanced.
