Music and health Name Institution Introduction Music is an influential tool which can lift individual’s mood or aid individual deal with nerve-racking or stressful circumstances. For patients, numerous studies have pointed out that music therapy can facilitate rouse, stimulate the brain and lighten symptoms of anxiety, depression, and memory loss[Dun06]. Similarly, studies have revealed that music has a profound effect on individuals psyche and body. In effect, there is increasing field of health care acknowledged as music therapy that utilizes music to heal and relax patients. Music therapy or music therapist are finding benefits in utilizing music to assist patients with cancer, children with autism, and those patients with depression and anxiety. Most hospital globally have began to use music therapy and music to assist patient with pain management, to facilitate fight off depression, to encourage movement, to calm individual or patients, to relieve muscle tension. It has become trendy that when individuals feel low they turn to their favorite play list[Aun04]. My play list aims to suppress depression and anxiety after a long hustle of the day. It is evident that with calm music, it makes an individual to relax and change their depressed mood to active and in a sober mood. In creating the playlist, one has to select a song that is soothing, those that have memories with nice and slower beats. The playlist contain 10 of my favorite songs with nice vocalist, nice beats, and appropriate messages that match the mood and circumstances. On the playlist, I will start with one of the favorite with slower beats, nice voice, and appropriate message. Will arrange the songs in ascending order; most favorite song becomes last on the playlist. In such arrangement, it will give me reasons to listen to the entire play list with anticipation to listen to the last song in the playlist. Most of the songs are the newest hits from main known artists while other songs are timeless classics. Katie Perry, (2013) Roar. Prism. America: Capitol records The first song on the play list is by Kartie Perry.” The song is one of my high motivator in life. The artist, Katie Perry is one of the most talented vocalist and creative. The setting of the video exposes nature, which is fascinating. The song is about ROAR and it makes an individual to have a feeling of being a master of your own environment and situation. It gives one the energy to overcome their prevailing circumstances. Bodner and Gilboa, (2007) pointed out that Listening to comforting music which relaxes individuals body and lift up one’s mind can considerably lessen how much stress one feels[Bod07]. Relaxation and comforting music helps individual to connect to one’s inner peace. When individual is quiet one’s beliefs and feel one source of harmony within, it is similar to having a stress and depression-proof field around an individual. Reduction of stress not only makes one experience much better feeling, it as well bring enhanced health to the individual. Sara Bareilles (2013) Brave. The Blessed Unrest. USA: Mark Endert The second song on my playlist is“Brave” by Sara Bareilles. I love the song as it demonstrates to me to be brave and overcome my prevailing situation. The lyric of the song gives me confidence to fight my depression anxiety and stress. The artist is a vocalist and has the lyrics is easy to sing along with the song. The song also inspires me to illustrate how huge my brave is. The song has strong beats, which enables me to relax. Studies have shown that music with sturdy beat may excite brainwaves to reverberate in sync with the thump or beat, with quicker beats brings sharper attentiveness and vigilant thinking, and a slower rhythm enhance a calm, contemplative state. In addition, research has revealed that the alteration in brainwave activity balances that music may bring might as well facilitate the brain to reallocate speeds more straightforwardly on its own as desired; hence, it implies that music may bring long-term benefits to individual state of mind, even following an individual has stopped listening[Bra09]. Tim McGraw (2004) Live Like You Were Dying,” Live Like You Were Dying. New York:Curb Records The other song on the play list is “Live Like You Were Dying,” Tim McGraw. The song reminds me to be strong and to keep going. The life is short and one has to live to the fullest in their life. With listening to the song, I keep in mind that I should not be consumed with stress or depression but enjoy every moment of life. Many people in hospital are in bad state and they cannot be able to enjoy their own life. With me having the privilege to enjoy life, ill divert my attention from the stressful event and enjoy the music. The music also helps my breathing rate to reduce. Bodner (2007) pointed out that with changes in brainwaves comes as a result of changes in other body functions in other body parts[Bod071]. Those body functions controlled by the autonomic nervous system, for instance heart rate and breathing may also be changed with the changes in music. This implies that slower heart rate, slower breathing, and an establishment of the relaxation retort, amongst other things. Pharrell Williams(2013) I'm Happy. Despicable Me 2: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack and Girl. Columbia: Back Lot Music The next song on my playlist is I'm Happy” by Pharrell Williams. Baroque music and Mozart's music, with a 60 beats for every minute pound pattern, activate the right and left-brain. The concurrent right and left-brain action exploits learning and preservation of information. The information being learned triggers the left-brain whereas the melody triggers or stimulates the right brain. USA: Bing Crosby The next song on the playlist is Wrap Your Troubles In Dreams (And Dream Your Troubles Away) by Frank Sinatra. I might be a couple of years too young for this song, nevertheless I adore the visual imagery of covering my predicament in a darken, and letting the trouble float away as I relax. It has been confirmed that while the mind and body are relaxed, the body's innate ability to restore to health itself is significantly enhanced. By listening to intensely soothing music, one can assist their body to liberate its healing powers. Researches have shown optimistic and positive benefits when individual listen to comforting music prior to and after surgical procedure and in sanatorium settings[Dun06]. Fanfare Ciocărlia (2007) Que Dolor. Queens and Kings. Spain: Asphalt Tango Records The last song on my playlist is Que Dolor by Fanfare Ciocărlia. This song is sung in Spanish, and I actually only depict the first line of the song, “Que dolor,” that generally decodes to, “how it hurts!!” This song gets me with the harmony; it is a Gypsy brass band having plenty of energy. Even though one was in pain, I believe that one could stay that mode for long with the song. From time to time, listening to the song can give one the inspiration and motivation required to overcome or get through the situation. The music has the aptitude to reach individuals on a more insightful level than plain words. By touching individual intensely, it may offer the boost one needs to confront a challenge head on of them[Bra09]. Conclusion Studies have revealed that music has a profound and thoughtful effect on individuals psyche and body. In effect, there is increasing field of health care acknowledged as music therapy that utilizes music to heal and relax patients. Those that practice music therapy or music therapist are finding benefits in utilizing music to assist patients with cancer, children with autism, and those patients with depression and anxiety. When individual is quiet one’s beliefs and feel one source of harmony within, it is similar to having a stress and depression-proof field around an individual.
