At its elevation the fire at David Pluck bookmakers in Wood church Road, Preston was tackled by more than 50 firefighters from across Merseyside over 12 hours. The fire spread to the neighboring estate agents, Bradshaw, Far ham and Lea, and near by inhabitants were evacuated. Fire officers were delayed by a ruptured gas principal, which added stable fuel to the blaze, and high winds.
