This paper aims at discussing the nature of organization of Indianapolis city. Though the county council does not have a generalized mission statement, it functions through a number of departments that have individual mission statements. The city also has a comprehensive plan which gives details on zoning in the city and includes principles and objectives of future land use, the creation of public ways, land, places, utilities, and structures. A comprehensive plan can also be used in seeking of state and federal grants (Ballard 45).

A good example of such grants is the Community Development Block Grant. For the city of Indianapolis, the Community Development Block Grant does more than just the above mentioned things. To them it enables the public to work together with the city council in planning for the development of the city. The comprehensive plan used in Indianapolis city puts emphasis on land use and development methods. The most dominant industrial sectors in Indianapolis city are manufacturing, social services, healthcare, and retail enterprise.

In comparison to the other cities in the state of Indiana, the city of Indianapolis has a lower number of manufacturing related jobs as compared to jobs that are under trade: administration, support, and handling of wastes; professional jobs relation to science, and technology; and transport, and warehouses. A good number of large and popular companies in the state of Indiana have their headquarters in Indianapolis. Indianapolis is known as a major place for dispensation and logistic facilities.

In the previous years, manufacturing was known to be the backbone of the city’s economy. However, with time there have been changes in the structure of economic activities in the city.
