Writing proposals and conducting research Writing proposals can be a challenging task because of the difficulties in organizing the research and writing processes. Making choices between primary and secondary research, as well as choosing the best research design for a research problem can be daunting. In Chapter 10, I found the information on the three-step process of writing proposals and conducting secondary and primary research useful because they will help me conduct my research in an organized manner and improve the effectiveness of my arguments and recommendations for my proposal.
The three-step writing process is particularly beneficial because it helps me prepare for the entire research and writing process. The most important step is how to “analyze the situation” because it establishes the direction and content of the proposal (Bovee & Thill, 2012, p.240). Creating the “statement of purpose” clarifies to me and my audiences what I want to write about, why, and for whom (Bovee & Thill, 2012, p.240). Knowing my purpose and target audience puts boundaries on my research and the proposal, and helps me concentrate on particular aspects that are relevant to my target audiences. As for conducting the secondary research, the “Boolean search” helped me to efficiently conduct research online. It made my search results relevant to my topic. Finally, Chapter 10 enabled me to gain knowledge and skills in conducting primary research. I am considering surveys and interviews and ensuring the validity and reliability of my data-collection tools assisted me in becoming more aware of an empirical approach to research. A scientific approach to my proposal will definitely boost my credibility and the relevance of my recommendations.
Chapter 10 is a useful resource in preparing formal reports. It provides the steps and tips in conducting research and writing the paper. It helps writers and students attain success in their diverse writing aspirations. For me, it has improved my knowledge and skills in preparing organized and convincing formal reports.
