Using a test devised by Drs. Hans Kraus and Sonja Weber of New York-Presbyterian Hospital, Bonnie began testing children in Europe, Central America, and the United States. The Kraus-Weber test involved six simple movements and took 90 seconds to administer. The fitness emphasis in schools started by Kraus-Weber declined in the 1970s and early 1980s. It compared US children to European children on strength and flexibility. The President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports was one result.

The President's Council on Youth Fitness was founded on 16 July 1956 to encourage American children to be healthy and active children, after a study indicating that American youths are less physically fit than European children, by then-President Dwight D. Eisenhower. President Eisenhower creates the President's Council on Youth Fitness with cabinet-level status. The Executive Order specifies "one" objective. The first Council identifies itself as a "catalytic agent" concentrating on creating public awareness.

 Pragmatism, as a school of philosophy, is a collection of many different ways of thinking. Given the diversity among thinkers and the variety among schools of thought that have adopted this term over the years, the term pragmatism has become all but meaningless in the absence of further qualification. Most of the thinkers who describe themselves as pragmatists point to some connection with practical consequences or real effects as vital components of both meaning and truth. The precise character of these links to pragmatic is however as diverse as the thinkers who do the pointing.

Eclectics, so-called philosophers who attach themselves to no system, but select what, in their judgment, is true out of others. In antiquity, the Eclectic philosophy is that which sought to unite into a coherent whole the doctrines of Pythagoras, Plato, and Aristotle, such as that of Plotinus and Proclus was. There is eclecticism in art as well as philosophy, and the term is applied to an Italian school which aimed at uniting the excellencies of individual great masters.
