Means of Warning and Escape4.1Functional requirementsFunctional requirement of B1 of the Schedule 1 to the regulation of the building Regulations 2000 consists of the early warning of fire and the means of escape in the case of fire outbreak within the building.

As such an automatic fire detection and alarm (AFD/A) system – type L2 (BS 5839-1:2002 & A2:2008) will be installed in the building to enhance the safety against fire within the building.4.3 Means of escape4.3.1 Occupational numbers Since effective safety during a fire outbreak requires a clear direction and occupants' state of mobility, understanding the section occupants' distribution is essential for such reasons. Therefore, based on the number of occupants information available, the number of exit doors, the stair exit width, the door width required, and the travel escape distance will be provided.
