EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION MAPPING Early childhood education mapping Customer Inserts His/Her Name Customer Inserts Grade Course Customer Inserts Tutor's Name 21.04.2011 Introduction Early childcare is vital for the growth of the child, with specific objectives of ensuring the child does not develop anti-social character which makes one become a social misfortune. Proper healthcare ensures the baby thinks properly, acts in an acceptable and responsible way and can make informed decisions. I have given a brief analysis of five centers which are key for the early development and growth of children and so I can recommend any parent to take his/her child to any of these centers for specialized care and treatment. Anglicare- Child FIRST Address: 60-64 Wells St Frankston VIC 3199, Phone (03) 9781 6700, Fax (03) 9781 4844 Requirements: The identity card of the parent/Guardian giving permanent address and the names of the child and the contact details. Summary: Anglicare provides vital information about parenting; this is information which helps parents and guardians to know what needs to be done to enable the baby to grow healthier emotionally and physically, how to carry out parenting so as to command respect from the child without instilling fear and when to reward good performance from the child and instill discipline without affecting the child mentally. This centre is reputed for linking families with disability and special needs programs, drug and alcohol control services, mental issues, family violence against the child and its prevention, accommodation for those who have been abused from their families and when to determine if one really need professional help from child first in relation to family issues, also offers financial counseling, dedicated parent education while working in groups. This centre has well furnished rooms filled with toys for children to play with, good relaxing places and well aerated rooms which provide a conducive environment of a home away from home and the staff is well experienced in handling children and always ready to help nurture responsible citizens. I have chosen this centre because it is providing vital services to the family which includes the issue of good parenting and offering guidance and counseling to both children and parents. Good parenting is the core to a good life and the child should get all the support to learn how to live and adapt into the environment, and able to know what is good (like working in teams or sharing) and bad (like dependence on drugs) in life. This centre is committed to a good life for all the concerned parties and has room for those who are abused so they can stay in a different environment and recover emotionally and also learn how to help others who will be in a similar position to theirs. Anglicare has professional experts in childcare who can identify when there is a problem relating to child upkeep and they devise ways of approaching the parent and explaining how differently parenting needs to be conducted so as to remove any conflicts within that family so helps to alleviate child growing hardships and resilience to overcome future hurdles. To sum it all, Anglicare ensures that the parent acts as the first real teacher to the child and has a listening ear to the child’s problems till maturity of the kid (www.anglicarevic.org.au) Frankston Toy Library Inc Address: 60a Playne St – Frankston Victoria 3199 – Telephone/ Fax: (03) 9781 3900 Requirements : Membership fee depends on how many toys the child will access, the least amount being $70, baby must agree to carry out annual fundraising events, take good care of the toys and take responsibilities for damages, late returns and misplaced toys or else face penalty charges to ensure compliance. Summary: This centre is all about keeping the child’s mind busy with constructive activities like watching educative movies, making crafts for parents and other loved ones, listening to stories and telling stories as well to other kids around, listen to live performances and music, borrow books and toys and ensure they are not damaged since there is a fee for damaged books, reading and learning about local and family histories, working together on duty rosters as well as being responsible to remind the library staff any change in permanent address. There is a specialized area for serious studies for kids dedicated to science and math studies and also offers electronic toys where kids do practice imaginative toys playing. This centre gives parents a chance to have quality time with their children, helps the child create a balance between books and playing and meet other mums and babies and do partying every week as well as having fun carrying out fund raisings. This centre is reputed for having special needs toys as well as keeping in stock quality toys for toddlers, which will help to activate and stimulate their senses. I recommend Frankston Toy Library services Marjory because of their abilities to help the baby develop strong mental horizons while still being active in games, a factor that will help the child to become healthy. The child is taught the aspects of being a responsible young person by being trained on how to take good care of toys or pay for damages and being creative as depicted from the aspects of carrying out fundraising for the library. The other nice feature is making the child to become a good orator due to the stories narration exercise and becoming a useful member of the society by being able to make crafts which can earn a living from the sales to be made, also it prepares the child to carry out visual discriminations, strategy and adventure, memorizing and being able to prioritize tasks in a sequence, to be eloquent as noted by the strategy of story telling in groups and breaking puzzles. This environment as well gives the child the opportunity to interact with other small children as they play and this will give the child a chance to grow normally and have fulfilled needs, while parents get to share more about child care, growth and development which is very crucial for child health, the library organizes parties every week which is very interesting for kids and gives them a chance to enjoy with others. Truly, this centre provides a channel for quality interaction between parents and children hence prepares the child to live positively as an adult (www.frankstontoylibrary.org.au) Frankston City Libraries Address: 60 Playne St Frankston 3199, Phone (03)9784 1020, Fax (03)9784 1750 Requirements : Free membership but for under eighteens, you will be introduced by the parent or guardian who will provide identification document showing full names and current permanent address and the child’s names and same current address as that of the parent. Summary: provides services where you borrow books which include books for the young children, CDs and DVDs for children to watch about early growth activities, provides community rooms for teaching the young in groups on how to behave and importance of group work, book clubs for the young and children get to listen to motivational CDs in the library. It as well organizes child movies which contains puppets and trains babies how to make puppets and above all, has story time for babies every week. This centre has modern playing games like the Wii System which helps thrill kids while competing with others. This is one of the best centers which trains children to share with friends since playing games is mostly in groups, it nurtures the issue of responsibility in children by the fact that children get to learn to apply safety measures while playing and they are taught to follow instructions always. It as well helps children to take become avid thinkers from the motivational CDs while learning how to grow up responsibly (wwwlibrary.frankston.vic.gov.au) Frankston Maternal and Child Health Address: Railway Paradise, Phone: 8773 9555 Requirements: Accepts enrolment for kids between 0 and 5 years. Summary: This centre promotes the health and wellbeing of children from birth to 6 years, arranges home visits where mothers are advised on how to take proper care of the child, guidance on nutrition and parenting is given priority, information on resources accessible to the child given the individual case, services and child agencies which can provide further care for the baby and also helps detect child health issues, proper screening is done regularly and so helps in child health and development as well as home safety and accident prevention and good reading and study habits for the kids. Family support is given priority with a dedicated parent education calendar and children always can access playgrounds with their loved ones. This centre gives tips on how well the baby needs to sleep and so it demands that parents buy a standard baby castor, the baby to sleep always on its back with head uncovered and have a firm mattress, no plastic covers around and baby not to have access to any loose covers. This is the preferred centre for new mothers since it has experienced staff who will help the new mother with ensuring the child grows properly and healthy till five years old, mothers are given education on how to ensure babies have good sleeping habits including what meals are preferred before sleep and after sleep, parents are informed how to cope with changing toddler behavior and how to help the toddler adapt slowly to nice behavior, there is information about post natal depression and its effect on the child, mother and other family members and how to cope with it, it teaches parents how to train the child on how to use toilets, there is enhanced maternal and child health facility which is dedicated for every family due to different social backgrounds and behaviors in homes so every home is treated in its own unique but independent way (www.frankston.vic.gov.au/.../Childrens.../Maternal_and_Child_Health/index) Connections – Pre-school Field Officer Program Address: Eastern Region, Connections Ringwod Office, 1-3 Pitt Street Ringwood, Victoria 3134, Telephone (03) 9871 0233 : Southern Region, Connections Windsor Office 274 High Street Windsor Victoria 3134, Telephone (03) 9871 0233 Requirements : Any family with a child attending a state funded kindergarten program or any teacher working for a state funded program or a parent or guardian can make a referral through forms which can be obtained from kindergarten or connection offices, the contact details of the person making the request are well captured, then the Pre-School Field Officer meets with the child. This is a free service though enrolment depends on the information provided by the parent and teacher and it is a brief on child’s strengths and interests, concerns for report, assistance expected from the Pre-School Field Officer and a list of strategies so far instituted without success, hence offering a criteria which will be used to offer proper guidance on the scheme to be used to help the child. Summary: This facility gives advice to teachers and parents with regard to child growth, organizes small short term target groups for the children and parents, carries out liaison and consultation with community services and other professional groups, helps to develop and institute individual growth programs for the children and it is tasked with making proper referral of the child to appropriate specialists depending on the individual case of the child. This service provides consultancy to kindergarten teachers and parents to help them understand the child’s behavior and work well with them, also helps in the inclusion of all children into state funded community and childcare kindergartens. Supports all children with all kinds of needs like the physically challenged, abused, and provides services in early childhood education and development, provides screening of children within the facility for proper growth, organizes advocacy on behalf of the children and their families, parent education groups to discuss about hoe to bring up children, helps children join small targeted groups to discuss about well being and good manners. I recommend this centre since it does a critical analysis of the child to check on the mental and physical status of the child then gives a list of professional services the child needs to access, child-parent groups within the community to attend, resources accessible to the child and the zeal and dedication of the care given to the child including screening and referrals simply it ensures that the child will always grow healthy and overcome any current challenges (www.connections.org.au) Reference Decs 2004, Department of Education and Children’s Services, Decs Publishing Vol 7, No. 18, pp 1-4 Bibliography www.anglicarevic.org.au www.connections.org.au www.frankstontoylibrary.org.au www.frankston.vic.gov.au/.../Childrens.../Maternal_and_Child_Health/index www.library.frankston.vic.gov.au Read More
