There are a number of vendors listed in each of the MQs. From the MQ you have selected, choose one Vendor from the “Niche Players” quadrant and write two paragraphs about their products. This should be based on research other than that in the Gartner MQ and appropriately cited/referenced. Cloudera Creates quality information that can be combined with other data sources in a timely response manner. They accurately give the truth for the purpose of any meaningful analysis and decision-making. Every data element should be made traceable to its sources and such sources should be verified for integrity. A data warehouse must accurately give the truth for the purpose of any meaningful analysis and decision-making. On-demand self-service – a customer can obtain cloud computing services such as storage and/or server time unilaterally without human interaction with the service provider.Broader network access–the network avails capabilities, which can be accessed through mechanisms, that are standard and promote the application by heterogeneous thick and thin client platforms like workstations and/or mobile phones.Resource pooling–the computing resources of the provider are pooled to serve many consumers through a multitenant model having different physical and virtual resources, which are assigned and reassigned depending on the customer’s requirement. There is location independence in that a customer cannot ascertain the exact location of the resources other than at a higher level of abstraction like country. Resource examples include network bandwidth, and storage.Rapid elasticity–cloud services can be elastically provided and released to scale rapidly inward and outward commensurate with demand. Consumers assume that the services available are unlimited and can be extended at any time in any quantity.Measured service–cloud computing systems control and optimize the use of resources automatically through leveraging a metering mechanism at an abstraction appropriate to the service type. Usage of resources can be controlled, monitored, and reported for transparency provision for both the customer and the provider of the service (Mell and Grance, 2011; O’Gara et al. 2009; Smith, 2009; Kang, n.d.). Service models Infrastructure as a service (IaaS)–this service model provides the customer with the capabilities of storage, processing, networks, and other computing resources,in cases, where the customer is able of deploying and running arbitrary software such as OS and applications. The customer does not control and/or manage the underlying infrastructure, but can control applications, storage and sometimes select networking components like firewalls (Mell and Grance, 2011). Platform as a service (PaaS)–this service model provides the customer with the infrastructure to deploy consumer-created/acquired applications created with the utilization of programming languages, services, libraries, and tools supported by the provider.Customer do not control or manage the underlying infrastructure (servers, networks, storage, and operating system), but can control the applications that he has deployed, as well as, the configure settings in the application-hosting environment (Mell and Grance, 2011). Software as a service (SaaS)–this service model allows the customer to make use of the provider’s applications in the cloud infrastructure. The applications can be accessed through different client interfaces like the program interface, or web browser. The customer neither controls nor manages the underlying cloud computing infrastructure, which include servers, network, operating system, storage, or individual applications exception the limited user-specific configuration settings (Mell and Grance, 2011). iii). Each Magic Quadrant includes a Market Overview. Summarise the market overview of the MQ you have selected. The global Cloudera market had an estimated value of $281 billion in 2011 (most recent data available). This is expected to reach $357 billion by 2015 based on a forecast of 6% annual growth. Roughly $67 billion of the 2011 value came from the home use and general business applications market. Information Technology (IT) market research firm IDC states that the global software market will significantly slow down in 2015, driven by the poor economic situation in Europe (Perry). According to IDC, the most rapidly growing developer software segment is the relational database management systems (RDBMS) market (Perry). Japan and Asia Pacific has been posting strong regional growth garnering 16.5% share of the global software market (Perry). Nevertheless, the United States is still the dominant player, with a 53% share – “supported by strong gains in Latin America last year” (Perry). For the year 2011, it is still Microsoft that is the leader in the worldwide software market, with 17.7% of all sales, which is double the share of IBM, the second ranker (Perry). Oracle ad SAP placed third and fourth, respectively. Meanwhile, the American software market alone – without Latin America – was valued at $106 billion for the same period (Datamonitor). Network and database management sales have proven to be the most lucrative for the American software market with total revenues of $24.7 billion (Datamonitor). Figure 1 at the Appendix Page shows the segmentation of the software market in the United States (Datamonitor). Industry research firm Datamonitor forecasts that the overall performance of the market is expected to further improve, to attain a value of $126 billion by 2015 (Datamonitor). One of the companies operating in the software market is Hewlett Packard (HP). This proposed marketing is intended for the software division of HP, particularly its HP TippingPoint Next Generation Intrusion Prevention System and Platform, from the company’s Enterprise Security product line. HP has the resources and the capabilities to make it to the top of global lists, but it needs to implement some improvements first before this may be achieved. This proposed marketing plan attempts to identify what these needed improvements are. The target market of this marketing plan is the United States. The following is an environmental analysis for the NGIPSP, using the PEST Analysis tool: Political: The upcoming national elections for the President of the United States will be on November 12, 2012. President Barack Obama, a Democrat, will be running for a second term. HP may be impacted by the political landscape because of potential changes in laws and regulations that could take place in the event that there is a shift from a majority Democrat Congress to one dominated by Republicans. The United States currently has a low ranking in terms of political stability and figures high in the list of nations vulnerable to terrorist attacks (Datamonitor). The country’s international policies against terrorism have further exacerbated this situation. HP’s product lines, being in the computer technology field, can be affected as they can become targets of cyber attacks or they can be used by terrorists and other hostile groups to do damage to the country. Economic: The country is recovering from the 2008-2009 global economic recession, which bodes well for the computer and electronic industry. Despite the economic crisis, the United States has the largest and most technologically powerful economy in the world with a per capita GDP of $48,100; and a GDP purchasing power parity of $15.29 trillion (CIA). However, the country has a public debt of 67.7% of GDP and this has implications for HP as possible measures to address this deficit could result in increased taxation that could impact businesses. The government has previously provided tax cuts in order to revive the economy but this could change in the near future as the government seeks to increase its revenues so that it can start lowering its debts. Social: The demographic composition of the United States presents a challenge. A rapid increase in the number of people aged 65 years old and beyond started in 2011 and will continue for many years (Datamonitor). The United States s still one of the most inequitable societies in the world, with the wealthy people making six times as much money as the poorest quintile (Datamonitor). This inequality is also evident in health care, including access to care and insurance coverage. Technological: America’s leadership position in innovation remains clear mainly because it is home to about one-third of the most skilled scientists and engineers (Datamonitor). The country accounts for one-third of total global expenditures on Research and Development (R&D) (Datamonitor). Question 02: BI Looking Forward (25 marks) Part B requires you to access and read the following document: Schlegel, K., 2014, Hype Cycle for Business Intelligence and Analytics, Gartner ID:G00252553, published 31st July 2013 a). –Technology listed in the ‘on the rise’ is graph databases Graph databases are used by companies to analyse sales by producing graphs which are relevant to the information stored. It is important to those companies involved in network marketing and the information stored is usually in graphical format. The information stored will show the relationship between attributes and items in a form of graphs. Graph databases consolidate all pieces of information relevant to decision-making in one network for easy and convenient viewing. Through Graph databases, one could view all of the organization's information in a well-organized format in cases where the company needed to generate reports, forecasting, or analytical procedures. They also help the company shift to analytical marketing as they provide automated predictive modelling process and allows programmers to do statistical analysis, retrieval, management and mining, writing reports, forecasting, business planning and decision making, operations research and project management, quality improvement, applications development, platform independent and remote computing, and data warehousing. Besides having more objects to consider, graph database also has to deal with the interactions of its graphical components. b). Select a Vendor present in the technology you wrote about in B(i) above and write a short (1 page) review of their product. The development of BigTable solution by Google was so that the storage management system could be relatively simple, and provide access to large data quantities distributed between thousands of computers. BigTable is physically similar to B+-tree index organized table having leaf and branch nodes that are disturbed across several machines. As in a B+-tree, the nodes split with growth allowing for extremely high scalability across numerous machines. The identification of elements of data in BigTableutilizes column name, a primary key, and a timestamp. BigTable supports both column-oriented and key-oriented lookups.The concept employed by Amazon in the development of SimpleDB is similar to BigTable. The same applies for Microsoft’s SQL Server Data Services (SSDS) (Agrawal et al., 2010; Harrison, n.d.). ORM-CloudDB Synergies – The chasm between the capabilities of mainstream relational databases and cloud databases is large. In effect, it becomes easy for users of relational databases to dismiss their long-term potential. However, applications that follow the ORM and Model-View-Controller (MVC) designcan offer the functionality of data management that is a requirement by an application. In addition, they can offer this functionality with economic advantages, as well as, compelling scalability. In other words, they exhibit the characteristic of disruptive technology (technology that offers economic advantage, as well as, adequate functionality) (Agrawal et al., 2010; Harrison, n.d.) The following year, 2005, the company realized an increase in sales due to recovery of the Asian economy. The company recorded a remarkable increase in sales by 17 percent in the first half only.
