The Lady al Affiliation: The Lady Question In 1947, Aung San Suu Kyi loving dad is assassinated by a group of armed men who were in uniform. This made her to later agree to spearhead political change in the country. This is in an attempt to achieve democracy in the country.
Kyi returned to Burma due to her mother’s poor health. In order to kick start her political journey; she started a political party which enabled her to clinch the country’s top seat. Her involvement into politics was to fulfill her dad’s dream of a democratic nation where all people were given equal rights and treatment.
In 1990, Kyi wins the national elections. Nevertheless, the military refused to accept the results and brought her into their control.
In 1991, she was put under house arrest by the military. She was also separated from her family members. Her husband and children were banned from coming back to the country.
During the time she was under house arrest, the family members tried to ensure that she gained recognition outside Burma. However, her separation especially with the children and husband weakened her very much.
In 1998, the family got tragic news that Suu Kyi’s husband was suffering from terminal cancer. However, she could not see her husband because the ban had not been lifted. As a result, her husband could not even attend the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony. However, her reactions were mainly meant to protect family name and ensure that her dream of a democratic nation remained alive.
